Hi! Shortly after I received my letter about my 20 week scan I received a letter that I had an appointment at the maternity center about a week after that. I last saw my midwife week 17 and will see her again week 24, so now I'm wondering what that other appointment with someone I've never met before will be about?

Both scans have gone well and I've had no complications so far, so guessing it's a routine thing, but no one has said anything to me about it, I just received a letter with a date, place and name of who I'm seeing.. What can I expect? Any ideas?
(Having the appointment tomorrow)

Thanks!

Can't you ring them and ask? It's a bit mean to leave you wondering xxxxxxxxxxx

I asked in the reception when I had my scan and she didn't have a clue..
I'm guessing it's just a normal check up of some sort. maybe some more bloods, or checking weight or something... dunno. Guess I could call, but I really really don't like calling places if I don't have to (slight phone phobia I guess) :p So I'm hoping maybe some of you would know :p :)

hmmm. I'm guessing no one else has had this then... maybe they just do it differently where I live?

So no one's had an appointment at the hospital not for scan and not for midwife that they were given in a letter without requesting it??

Hmmm.. Im not sure hun.. I had a 16 week app and then had my 20 week scan and then my next appointment with the MW is at 25 weeks.

I have checked in that NHS Pregnancy Book they give us too and it doesn't mention it in ther.. Perhaps its a mistake???

Hi
I got given an appt a week after my 20 wk scan with a consultant & like you was in the dark as to why. The receptionist asked if I had any medical conditions or had I had a troubled first pregnancy to get referred. It then dawned on me that at my very first MW appt the MW mentioned I may need to see a consultant because I'd had such a troublesome labour with my son - & may need to be monitored or induced early. I can only assume it's to do with that??
Is this your first pregnancy & do you have any medical conditions?? Xxx

Thanks for the reply Loopy! Yeah, that's the other appointments I have, and then this one popped up in between... don't know why...

Puscha, this is my first pregnancy and I don't have any medical conditions, I'm healthy weight, 22 years old etc. The only two things are that I have some back problems, but I was referred to a back specialist for pregnancy for that and saw the week before last (so after I was given the appointment I have tomorrow) and the other thing is that my mother in law and my dad both have hypertension and my dad has type 2 diabetes. But my bloodpressure has been really good so far, and I don't have diabetes as far as I know. Don't know if it could have anything to do with that?

I'll find out tomorrow... I just wish I knew!! I want to know if I'll be weighed or have blood taken etc.. nice to know in advance... the letter doesn't say anything really...

My hospital are terrible for this! My last one they asked me why I was there!!! They then measured me wrong and rushed me in for an emergency scan (everything was ok!!)
Hopefully they are helpful and everything's ok!

my 20 weeks scan is november and iv already had a letter through to go to my maternity centre in january for an antenatal appointment, maybe its something similar xx

I had to see a dr at the hospital because i have a high BMI so im high risk, but they didn't tell me this until i went, so maybe they want to keep a closer eye on you because of your back problem?
xx

It turned out the dr couldn't figure out why I was sent there either... she said it could have been if I had a high BMI for instance, but that that wouldn't be the case with me as mine is healthy.. and she saw that the baby is growing normally, and is not getting huge, which could also have been an issue... They did blood pressure and urine sample, which were both fine... she concluded I am definitely low risk (just like my midwife said) and that she didn't know why the box was ticked for me to see her...

Now I can't help but worry there's something wrong and that whoever thought I should see her forgot to specify it :-/

Hopefully they just ticked the box, in which case it was a bit of a waste, except that I got to hear the heart beat for a few seconds :p

So.. still confused really :p But I guess I should just be happy everything is fine!

I asked her about my weight as I haven't gained much and first she wasn't concerned but she asked me what I usually eat and I do skip either breakfast or lunch quite often... so she told me to make sure I eat both... but I know that... but I'll try to be even better since she said that.. Before I've just been told I should be happy :p So good to get told I need to eat as I guess I would quite easily let my lack of apetite make me eat less since I hope to not gain too much.. but I definitely don't want to harm Pip!! So a bit worried about that now too... Pip is a bit on the small side according to the 20 week scan.. not unhealthily small, but at the small end of the average.. so yeah, now I worry about that... Which I guess in a way is good.. so I make sure to eat more... anyway, that's not what this thread was about :p
I'm just too sleepy to "edit" what I write now... just write what I think :p

I'll go to sleep I think!

Take care everyone!

Glad it wasn't anything to worry yourself about, I stopped eating for the first 20 weeks of pregnancy and was really worried aboout the baby but the doctor said dont worry it will take everything it needs it will be you that feels like rubbish- lol -
But if you feel like you can eat more then brake out the chocolate buns :D
There worried my baby will get too big so fingers crossed it doesn't... Just because mamma is big doesnt mean baby will be is all i keep saying lol x

Glad all is ok. I have never had much of an appetite but I am a grazer and eat little and often between meals. I've never had breakfast even when I was little xxxxxxxxxx

hiya
just popped over from tri 1 but the reason could be due to your father having diabetes, as mine does too and have been told later in my pregnancy i have to go to hospital for routine diabetes tests as ur more of a risk of getting gestational diabetes if your parents have it!!
if this is the case it will be a blood test then they give you a lucozade drink wait a cople of hours then do anither bood test to check blood sugar levels!

try not to worry, the more checks up the better i think :) x
