I don't know why but suddenly i want a homebirth. Have even managed to talk hubby round to the idea hehe! I was just thinking it would be easier because of the kids and that i would be able to relax and do what i want at home.
Anyone else thinking about it or has had one?

I had a fab homebirth with my son so am definitely hoping for another this time round if possible. I would thoroughly recommend one to anyone low risk.

I have just read your birth story and it was lovely! I am going to see midwife next week so will have a chat about it with her. All my labours have been less than 5 hours long with my last one lasting only 1hr 40mins, so i am expecting that this one is going to be quick too, but you never know!

I loved my homebirth and it was so much easier with having an older child too

i would love a homebirth this time but not allowed because i had a blood transfusion in january :(

i was planning on having a home birth, but ended up having to go in to hospital :(

I've been thinking alot about a home birth too.

I had such a horrible time with my dd that I think being at home and feeling more in control would help this time. I'm going to speak to my Midwife next week.

My 3 hospital births were ok, 2nd one was a bit dodgy in my eyes but the main reason i feel like a home birth is because i felt that its like a conveyor belt, its not very personal and i felt very abandoned after the birth - moved to a ward and left to cope cause the staff were so busy. Infact after my last birth the Dr didn't even get chance to check my baby i asked when i could go home and the midwife said 'now, i will discharge you!'

The second time i was moved to a ward during the night had my breakfast and saw a midwife once then was discharged she practically ran us to the door! I know that they are busy but it's something that you remember forever.

I have had normal deliveries with all 3 so it shouldn't be a problem. I would also like to try hypnobirthing and i think i would be more in control at home.

I've had 2 home waterbirths and would recommend it to anyone. :)

When my second daughter was born, my oldest was asleep upstairs in bed. In the morning, I heard her stirring and whispered for her to come and look in the moses basket next to the bed. She peered in, then looked up at me and whispered, "Oh Mummy, is it real?" So cute! Then she went tearing downstairs shouting "Daddy, the baby's here!" Like he didn't know!

It is so brill to be in your own home, especially when you have older children. My 3rd daughter was born in 2 1/2 hours. When my waters broke at 5.45pm, my FIL came round to pick the older girls up. They watched a dvd at his house then we called him at 8.30pm to say the baby had arrived at just past 8pm and they could come home now! So they were back and meeting their new sister within a few minutes and we all went to bed as normal that evening. Think it definitely reduces disruption and therefore helps the bonding process.

The only thing is that my OH was very scared so my mum came round to help him too! Also, the midwives didn't bring enough gas and air so when it ran out I was totally without anything and that ain't funny when you're giving birth to a 10lb baby.

I would love another home birth this time but because my 3rd daughter was so big, she got stuck. Her head was born for 20 min before they managed to free her shoulders and get her out because of her size. Obviously I am concerned about this happening again so would rather be in hosp already, just in case. I will wait at home as long as I can though. I've been told the chances of another big baby are very high, although I am going to have a precautionary GTT in case GD was the reason.

If you have the option and your OH is supportive then do it! It is an amazing experience and way better than just feeling like another statistic in the hospital.

I would love to have a home birth, but I really don't think I have the guts. I also worry that something might go wrong which wouldn't be caught as early as in a hospital. I'm low risk as far as I know and I'm going to discuss the possibility of a home birth with the midwife at my next appointment. Really the only thing putting me off is the chance of something going wrong, and I'm not sure how well I'd do with only gas and air.

Actually, I felt a lot happier during my home births than in hospital because in hospital they tend to just leave you alone until you are nearly at second stage, whereas you get your own personal midwife at home who has no other distractions. She then calls a second midwife when things start getting interesting! She will spot a problem and transfer you to hospital very quickly if needed.

With regards to the pain relief, midwives can also offer pethadine if you want, although if you have it you can't go in a pool. For me, the birthing pool was the best pain relief I could have had. The water is so soothing and makes it much easier to find a comfortable position during contractions.

I would absolutely love a home birth, but not sure if I would be able to as I had very high blood pressure in the later stages of my previous pregnancy & they wanted to keep an eye on me. I was in labour for 14 hours aswell... not sure if I would be allowed one?! I am definetly going to ask my Midwife about it though next time I see her!

Cixes, I know what you mean about feeling like you are on a conveyor belt in hospital! I absolutely despise being in hospitals anyway, even if it's just going to visit someone! They were good whilst I was in labour, I had the most lovely midwife, she was fantastic, but after the birth I felt as though they just wanted to get you out of there as quickly as possible (which they probably did due to a shortage of beds!) and just left you to get on with it! I think I would feel a lot more relaxed being at home and in my own surroundings.

With my first preganancy I was induced at 36 weeks with pre-eclampsia (blood pressure reached 200/110 - normally 100/60) but was told that so long as I showed no symptoms in my next pregnancy there was no reason not to be at home. Also, my sister was admitted to hosp with high BP at the end of her pregnancy but she was allowed to go ahead with her home birth when it returned to normal a few days later.

Every pregnancy is different and I am sure your midwife will be supportive towards a home birth if you stay healthy.

Thanks for the reassurance Jess! It must have been horrible for you having to be induced in your first pregnancy due to that :( but at the same time it's good to know that you had a successful homebirth in your other pregnancies! That has put my mind at rest a bit!

I didn't have any major problems, just the high blood pressure, so hopefully I should be allowed a homebirth. I am definetly going to discuss it with my Midwife at my next appointment in a few weeks, fingers crossed eh!

I wasn't officially 'allowed' to go ahead :shhh: , the hospital told me I couldn't as I'd been switched to consultant care but my community midwife said if I was happy to go ahead then she was too so just tell the delivery suite I was having a homebirth when I phoned up :D

I talked to my kids about it today, my youngest (4) said he would like me to have the baby at home, my middle one (6) said he didn't want to see it cause there would be blood! and my eldest son (10) said that he would like it and said he wanted to watch the baby being born!

I was just thinking about it today and i thought how quick all my labours have been 4.5hrs, 3hrs 20 and 1hr 40 (induced) so i have this fear of going into labour, phoning up the hospital and being told to have a bath and paracetamol until its established then ending up having my hubby 'catch' the little one in the car on the 15-20min drive to hospital! My last 2 labours things were going along at a normal pace and then wham the baby was out within mins - in fact less than 1 min 2nd stage with the last one!

I have never even considered a home birth. We live in a terraced cottage and I wouldnt want the neighbours to hear my screams :D I also think our Border Collie would keep bringing me balls, and jumping on the bed, or in the pool!!

No would rather go to hospital and escape the animals, and neighbours!!! :D

I live in a terraced house. My neighbours didn't know I had had the baby till a few days later when one heard her crying when a window was open :) The other didn't know until OH went round to apologise for the noise :rotfl:

We live in a semi but always hear next door's dog barking so I was sure they would have heard... but no it was 3 days afterwards when we took him into the garden! TBH even if they had heard it wouldn't put me off, I can't imagine going into hospital to have a baby  :)

im wanting a home birth but not even spoken 2 the midwife yet i cant wait x
