Feeling super excited! I'm almost 38 weeks and I've just had my gases & homebirth box delivered & our pool is blown up and ready to go! Can't quite believe it!!! Anyone else planning a homebirth? This is my 3rd baby - first 2 were hospital births - really can't wait to have this baby at home 😀

I was really hoping to have one this time round as my first came really quickly with no pain relief, but I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so will prob b induced again. However my mw has put me down for a homebirth if I do go into Labour so fx lol.

Ooh I'm going to follow and see how it all works. I'd love a home birth this time, DD1 was a 6 hour labour with no pain relief so I'm hoping it could work out for this one! Good luck :clover::clover:Xx

Remember it's always your choice - if you feel you're given all the information you need about your & your baby's health/wellbeing as well as the benefits & risks of ALL options you can refuse induction & birth at home - your maternity services have a duty of care to support your birth at home irrespective of whether they advise it or not :) if you really want a homebirth look into your options, weigh up the benefits & risks and start a dialogue with your midwife - if you need impartial information/support, request a meeting with the Supervisor of Midwives at your hospital and consider hiring a doula :)

I'm having a home birth :) I can't wait this is baby number 4 but me had my husbands 1st together and his first child, I tend to have very long drawn out labours but no pain relief so thought I might as well stay home where I'm comfy! I'm hiring a birthing pool and really looking forward to it my 3rd baby was a water birth in hospital and it was an amazing experience other than the fact I hate hospitals so fingers crossed all goes smoothly and I get my lovely home birth I'm currently 23 weeks x

We've had two home births now and both times it was the best choice I can imagine. Hope it goes well for you.

I agree about doing some reading about GD and induction etc. The evidence behind inducing early for GD is not very clear. I have known women with GD who refused early induction.

My midwife has said I'm an ideal candidate (5 hour labour last time with no complications and no pain relief) but I'm still torn. Think I need to look into it a bit more. Plus my friend had a nasty unexpected bleed after her third (baby came out with its hand by its face and caught a blood vessel in her vagina wall) and she had a massive bleed which has scared me a bit. Silly as it was probably a thousand to one chance of it happening but she was very poorly and they said had she been at home it might have been touch and go.

My midwife has said I don't have to decide until on the day I go into labour. So we are going to prepare everything for a home birth, and that will be our plan, but if for any reason I don't feel comfortable to go through with it, I'll be assessed at home and then I can go to hospital if that's what we decide.

I really want a home birth though!

On Vimeo there is a documentary about a MOTHER that does not want the hospital experience for giving birth and prefers a pool. The film is called BIRTHING AT HOME.

The TRAILER is available on Vimeo: you can find it if you search for "Birthing at home" on Vimeo and click on Scorpion TV Video (I cannot post a link yet).

The synopsis: "Birthing At Home, in one phrase, is the agony and the ecstasy. 32 year-old Alexis did not want the hospital experience for giving birth, instead opting for birthing in her parent's home without the aid of any drugs."

What do you think about it? Is it healthy? Safe? Hygienic?

Thank you,
David

I'm planning on having a home birth with this baby. My MW says I have to see the consultant first to straighten out a few minor issues, but if the consultant gives the green light then there's no reason I cant :D

HB was a great choice for us. Just be aware some consultants are HB freindly but some will pretty much automatically find a 'reason' why you 'cant' have a HB. You can always say you would rather not see a consultant or that you want a HB even if they dont recommend it. Of course it depends on your circumstances, sometimes there are good reasons to chose hospital rather than home but be ready to spot excuses rather than solid reasons :). Hope it goes well for you.

I had to see the consultant regarding my previous birth and blood loss, he was very pro home birth and suggested ways to keep my iron levels up.
My midwife (seen a different one every time) was very negative and said they wouldn't discuss till I'm 36 weeks!

So saw my normal midwife today and all looking good for home birth!
Got midwife coming in 2 weeks to assess house and drop off gas and air eek!

Thats great news mrs T. How many weeks are you now?

35 so have to make it to 37 weeks obviously. I'd be surprised if I went early - I'm hoping the week surrounding my due date baby will make their appearance!

Anyone else decided on their home birth or had any discussions with midwife?
