Hi There

Following on from Jenna's post about setting targets a while ago, and them being realistic, i was wondering if anyone knew what the actual statistic's say about the chances of couples conceiving within the 1st month, third month, within 6 months and a year of trying etc.

Just so i can get a feel for what is realistic etc i know they are only guidelines but i am surrounded by friends and family that have been tryign for years but i don't even know how long the 'average' or 'normal' (sorry i hate those words  ) couple has to wait?

Does anyone know? How long have you all been trying? (i kind of know how long for some of you from your tickers)

Bex :D

I think they say a healthy couple can take as long as a year. Im not sure about %'s though.

i read somewheres is like 30% within the 1st month
40% within the 2nd
60% on the 3rd
90% within the 4th month

Great thats what i was after some indication of the timescales and chances etc.

Thanks for posting :)

hopefully it wont be long until its my turn

We have been trying for exactly 2 years and 3 days. I did that online test and it says my chances are 97% Pls be this month

For me, I got my BFP 5 months after coming off the pill.

I don't know about %, but was told if nothing happened within a year, I was to return to my doctor to begin investigations.

Hope this helped. xxx

All sites state different results, there evidence is based on the information they have collected. They may have done there study based on 100 women ttc.... the evidence isnt concrete enough

However according to the fertility clinic it states 90% of couples fall pregnant within 2 years. There facts would be based on GP Records and more conclusive

Id be inclined to believe the figures given by the fertility clinic over other websites.

:D

This is what the government said about it:

'Fertility problems affect one in seven couples in the UK. Most couples(about 84 out of every 100) who have regular sexual intercourse (that is, every 2 to 3 days) and who do not use contraception will get pregnant within a year.

About 92 out of 100 couples who are trying to get pregnant do so within 2 years.

Women become less fertile as they get older. For women aged 35, about 94 out of every 100 who have regular unprotected sexual intercourse will get pregnant after 3 years of trying. For women aged 38, however, only 77 out of every 100 will do so. The effect of age upon men’s fertility is less clear.

If you have not been able to get pregnant after 2 years of regular unprotected sexual intercourse either one, or both, of you may have a fertility problem.'
