I have been on Methyldopa (500mg 3 x a day) for two weeks now and initially it dropped my BP right down from 150/110 to 100/60 but yesterday it was back up to 125/75. I had very high BP with my first baby (230/130 at the highest!) so I can't help but worry that it appears to be creeping up again especially as it started so early this time. I have also started getting trace protein in my wee and have had a constant headache for 11 days now which the doc (not my regular one) really unhelpfully said take paracetemol for which I had told her I have been with no success!
Has anyone else been on meds for BP? Does it drop it down and then level out a bit after a while taking it?

Hi there, I developed high blood pressure during labour and it stayed high afterwards. I've been taking meds for it since I delivered three weeks ago. My BP was at 200/150 at one point, and had to stay in hospital for a week to try and get it down. Was only allowed to leave when the bottom number was consistently 90 or under. The midwife has been checking my pressure daily since then and it varies from 110/60 up to 140/80. I queried the numbers with her and she said the top number increases if your stressed or have been rushing about so it's the bottom one that means most.
I had a search online as I was so confused by blood pressure and found this chart http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicin ... essure.htm which I found useful. 125/75 is bang on the normal side so you have nothing to worry about hun - you probably just weren't as relaxed at the time as when they got the 100/60 reading.
Hope this helps,
Sarah x

sorry to hear your still suffering with your blood pressure Mik :(
tis rubbish when they say "take paracetamol" for your headaches cos thats just masking that theres a problem there.
Is this really all they can do for you?

I was put on BP meds when I was admitted to hosp with pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy. I was 35 weeks by then and my BP continued to rise despite the meds and constant bed rest  (soooo boring!) The only thing that cured it in the end was being induced at 36 weeks. I didn't even need meds after the birth, as my BP dropped almost straight away, although I was monitored for 2 more days in hosp.

Sorry I'm not a huge amount of help as my problem was more towards the end of my pregnancy and was properly diagnosed pre-eclampsia. My BP at its highest was about 220/110, when I was normally about 90/50. I've not had BP problems since and I'm about 110/60 this time around.

Hope things work out for you. Like peanut1982 said, you are still in the normal zone so just try to take it easy ( :rotfl: ) and keep up the meds. Hope the headaches start to get better

I was on methyldopa for the last week of my preg, having sky high bp all the way through, they finally induced me at 39 weeks (although i wish they hadn't as he wasn't ready to come). I actually felt the methyldopa made me feel awful, really lethargic and bunged up. It did drop it down, but so did bed rest!
If you have trace protein, high bp and headaches, your doctor should be checking you for pre eclampsia hun, maybe go back, or try and see someone else, you shouldn't have to suffer
Edit - didn't read your numbers, 125/75 is pretty normal...so thats good

Thanks  I know I am being a worry wort  125/75 is ok so I will stop being silly and I see my regular doc tomorrow so will talk to her about the headache it is just getting worse and worse and has now involved my neck too :(

Yes I saw my doc who was lovely as usual she decided instead of me seeing my mw every week she wants me to see mw one week and her the next so she can keep a close eye on me. She gave me some tabs for the headache to try and shift it and told me to keep a kick chart so we can keep an eye on how wrigglebum is moving. She has also told me she doesn't want me going to BIL's wedding next weekend as it is so far away and she thinks it will be too stressful and my hubby was wonderfully supportive about that we are going to see how I am during the week.
BP was 100/70 and no protein :cheer: and she is going to help me with arranging support from Army welfare with the school runs and shopping when hubby is away for 5 weeks in the new year. Feel so much better about it all now thanks for all your support
