my son has been prescribed some medication from dr as his is so bad its all over his face and back and at 14 its really upsetting him just wondered if theres anyone out there who had any success with the medication?
they have put him on oxytetracycline tablets which i believe is an antibiotic
and also loratadine syrup which im not sure what it is
they said not to expect anything for a while as it takes a few months to see a difference
anybody got any experience of this id be glad to hear from you xxxxxx

 why would they give him an antihistamine? xxx

Probably To Help Take The Inflammation Away If The Spots Are Red And Inflamed

It Helps Fight Them From The Inside

hi i cant remember the specific medication but i did try every lotion and potion the doctor had to offer and to be honest none of it made a difference they used to say wait a few months but they all used to just dry out my skin but the spots were still there! in the end i got referred to hospital and got put on a course of Roaccutaine or sumthin like that where they have to moniter your liver. i understand how upsetting it is to have acne. if it's quite bad try not to use these clearasil facewashes and things like that as i think this can make them more red when its angry try to just use warm water and maybe a bit of soap and make sure he has clean hands when he touches his face so as not to pass on bacteria.
this helped me quite a bit. hope i helped and good luck

hi hun

i was treated for that when i was bout 14/15. The doc gave me lots of different medications, nothing worked then got referred to dermatologist at hospital who put me on something similar to roaccutaine (sp) cant remember exactly what.

Anyway i had it really bad all down my back, shoulders, face, front, and i had to go for regular appointments with hospital because it was still new thing when i had it, only side effects i had was really bad lips and hands like really rough but with cream soon calmed down.

It had a risk of depression but already had that so didnt make me feel that different anyway but there are many different things now, but really i was admazed how quickly it worked.

Anyway if you want any more info just PM me hun, good luck hun

thanks everyone
weve tried all the clearasil type products that you can buy in the shops none of them worked :(
weve found that putting sudocreme on his face every night for bed takes the angriness out of the ones on his face so they dont look so bad
fingers crossed the medication off the doctor might just work in a few months otherwise it will be back to the drawing board xxxxxx

I Was Given A Gel Called Panoxyl Aquagel, You Can Buy It Over The Counter At Chemists Or On Prescription (We Gave Loads Out)

It Does Make The Face A Bit Red To Start With But It Worked For Me

You Can Get Different Strengths So If One Is Too Weak/ Strong You Can Try Another One

Its About £3 Something

Oo I may have to get some of that tomorow Vicki.

Since starting college this year I've had quite a few my make doesn't cover them properly and some are even begining to leave marks.

As some dissapear (and I think I'm getting rid of them) more crop up :shakehead: Theres proberly not that many compared to some but I've never had a problem with spots before and I'm 25 now so really can't be doing with it.

I wash my face in the morning and remove my make up at night so it's not that, think I may just be run down from having college and course work to do ontop of looking after the kids.

Rach hope the stuff the dr gave you works for your son, I can imagine how upsetting it must be for him

I Know It Gets You Down I'm 24 And I Still Get Them

Most Of It Is Marks From Where I Have Had Them Before So Looks Like I Have More Than I Do

Bio-Oil Is Good For Scars From Spots :D
