Hi ladies,

I am 9 weeks pregnant and had my booking appt the other day, midwife said she will refer me due to abnormal smears and biopsies - most recent March 15 which was luckily all normal.

What is the reason for referring? Is it due to poss incompetent cervix? x

Sorry no idea but I'd suggest asking your midwife for more information

Hello, I'm not entirely sure as it could really be anything? If it's something that has come back from a recent smear then I'm unsure if a incompetent cervix would fall in that range? Perhaos try getting a bit more information from your midwife or the gp as I'm sure the wait isn't very nice to not know what's going on x

I had an abnormal smear and cells removed just before I got pregnant and I haven't been referred to consultant for that. I don't think you would be referred for that as usually they say everything should be normal. As other girls have said probably best to ask your midwife if you're not sure Hun xxxx

Me! I had multiple biopsies and cancer cells etc a few years back. I'm consultant led, it's basically to make sure your cervix hasn't been weakened in any way ( risk of premature labour) if it has there's lots they can do, injections and stitches etc...

I have scans every 2 weeks from 16 weeks onwards, they stop
If all ok around 26 weeks.

I'm 28 weeks and hopefully will be signed off soon. It's nice as u get to see baby every two weeks and are closely monitored x hope everything goes ok for u xxxx and congratulations

Depending on biopsies u had will be consultant led or not - if punch biopsies and not many taken then they say it doesn't effect cervix , if cone then could make it thinner ( incompetent ) as quite a large bit taken ( I had numerous of both) that's how it was explained to me.

You should get a consultant appt first where they'll explain everything and what u need etc xxx

That's what happened with me and I also had to pick a hosp instead of a birthing centre x it's nothing to be worried about and apparently very common , which I didn't realise x

Ah how interesting! Maybe it's when you have had a few then as perhaps it weakens cervix a little more then?? Xxx

Ohhhh I read wrong... So because of abnormal biopsy testing this may have caused the cervix to be thinner therefore needing a consultant to check it over for pregnancy. Ok hun sounds like lots of ladies have been in your shoes and can offer better advice x

That's what I was told that more biopsies can weaken the cervix, I've had lots and lots and so far my cervix has not gone below 2.5cm ( I think 1.5cm is the worry) so it's more just for monitoring .. And u get to see baby lots too! If you need any more advise let me know , as I'm coming to the end of all my consultant things... Fx they sign u off xx

Thanks ladies, thank you Jess. Well I have had 3 punch biopsies in 5 years,I guess I will have to wait and see what consultant says. x

Hi,
I have had 2 lots of biopsy's taken since October 2013, I had loop treatment in Jan this year. They had to take more than they thought and I bleed a lot and had to stay in hospital overnight. I am still waiting on a booking in appointment - the midwife rang and explained to me that I will need to see a consultant so im in the same boat

xxx
