A friend of mine has a spare one of these she offered me (she has a girl 9 months older than my lo who has been successfully potty trained). My lo only just turned 2 so I was going to give it a go over the next few weeks but I'm not putting too much pressure on it. He's showing signs he might be ready and we've been reading Pete's Potty for a few weeks now and I think he's getting the idea.

Anyway back to this portable potty, I was going to take it from my friend for when we are out and about, I like how it clips to toilets seats too but another friend of mine said it wouldn't be suitable for boys since they pee standing up. She has a 3 year old (potty trained) boy herself. I'm confused now and clearly haven't thought about the sitting down/standing up thing with boys! What do you think? Anyone used one with a boy?

As for his actual potty for the house I haven't bought one yet, I was going to just get one from boots but I keep seeing fancy ones on amazon so not sure what to go for. Any suggestions?

Other things I'll need are pants and pull-ups for night, right?

Maybe I'm over-thinking all this! TIA x

Noah isnt potty trained yet.

But my 2 nephews started sitting down but when they got the hand of it and was fully trained they were taught that boys should stand up and in a toilet it didnt take them long to get the hand of it lol.
Standing up aiming for a potty would be horrific!!
It would splash everywhere lol!!

That toilet seat looks good but u can buy a bog standard clip on seat for the toilet for about £3/£5 in asda hun xx

Thanks Dani. Seems like daft questions but most of my friends have girls so I felt a tad clueless not thinking about the standing up to pee thing. Will start sitting down first lol. It might be a disaster as he's so young but thought i'd give it a try anyway. If he's not in to it I won't push it.

Just noticed my ticker there, looks so strange that he's 2 years now  I swear it was yesterday it said 2 months  x

Definitely start potty training sitting down and let them get the hang of that first before doing the whole stand up to go thing. Otherwise it will get very very messy!!

Yeah definitely start him sitting down as standing is so messy! Lol

I'm potty training Cam at the minute and we are starting sitting down.

That in itself is still messy enough and we have had spillages!!

Sometimes when he wees, it hits the side and flows up and out of the potty, so I stick a towel underneath it now.

I think the portable potty is a great idea, in fact I might get one! At the moment I'm just using his normal potty with me when I go out but it is bulky!

Thanks girls! I've got a plastic mat I bought for under his highchair when weaning so I'll stick that down under the potty to save my carpet (which is filthy anyway and needing gone but still - yuck). Yeah the portable potty looks handy, it comes in its own plastic drawstring bag and falls small enough to fit in your changing bag or just carry on its own.

I'm off to boots/asda later today for pants and a potty then...I'm sure I'll be back later with another stupid question

I try no to let boys pee standing up in my bathroom until they are about 4, lol! before that it's all over the place! lol and definitely not in a potty - as like others have said it would splash back out - most potties are adapted with an extra high bit between the legs, designed for boys - as their bits tend to stick straight out while young and would pee over the side of a potty otherwise ;)
