Hi im currently 23 weeks Pregnant and wasn't really thinking about the birth much untill i went to the hospital and the doctor has said since im a high risk pregnancy they think they will induce me at 38 weeks...
Its my first baby and i think if i hear other women who have had inductions i may feel better about the whole thing if i know what happens/ what to expect etc... so if you would like to share please do! x

I have been induced twice, i have never went into labour spontaneously. My first was ok, for some reason the put me straight on to the syntocin (sp) drip. This brought contactions on quickly and painfully. I had an epidural and my daughter was delivered by forceps. All in all it wasn't a bad experience but had i been older and know what i know now i would have asked for them to explain things a lot better.

Second time was much better. They gave me the gel that they insert. This started off things for me from the heavy feeling you get when af is starting to mild pains all day. They sent my dh home around 10pm but said that he would be more than likely back in the early hours. I managed to sleep for a few hours and then woke with pains that were strong but manageable. I lay there around 2am not really knowing what to do. After going to the bathroom the pains became even stronger so i called for the nurse who came in and examined me and it was all systems go. She called my dh, gave me gas and air (which was great) and also made me a cup of coffee. I was amazed at this as when i had my daughter they wouldnt let me eat or drink anything! An hour or two later the pain was intense and I had some pethidine which was great. My son was delivered naturally at 8am. This was the closest to a natural labour i think i could have gotten. Other than the gel everything progressed on it's own.

Just remember that you have every right to make the same choices re induction as you would if you went into laboujr yourself. This is something i learned from the first time and will definately be doing again if this baby has to be induced.

I was induced by the hormonal drip, and due to complications they had to get the baby out ASAP!
For me it was awful. I went from no contraction whatsoever to full blown uncontrollable ones !
I had gas and air - that made me sick with tidal wave contractions, so had 2 x epidural, which then made me too numb to be able to push!
But like i said it was because of complications that they had to crank it up so hard, so was all done in a bit of a panic.
Make sure you fully understand what is going to happen , and ensure it is done at a much slower, manageable pace.
Good luck! xxxx

I was induced at 40+12 days by the drip. They thought baby might have pooed but tuned out she didnt. I was 4 cm dilated any way with no pain for a week. I found the drip fine. Wasnt as I heard it was going to be! I had gas and air and managed ok! The only thing was that I couldn't move around but I was able to sit on a ball for abit then waters went and my amazing Grace came about 2 hours after x

I was wondering about this too, I'm due to be induced at 40+13 but have no idea what to expect. The midwife said I have to go in to hospital at 2pm on the Friday but I won't be induced till the next morning? I'll be 40+14 then, I wasn't expecting to be allowed to go that far :-( its good to read your stories to get a bit of an idea about what happens x

My birth story, I was induced at 42 weeks. It ends in section but not because of the induction. The induction itself was a breeze, just one pessary and contractions started naturally about 8 hours later.

I was induced at 39 weeks due to baby's heart stopping beating. My waters were broken by a stick type thing (sorry i'm rubbish at the medical terms) then put on a drip, was straight into very painful contractions, which lasted for nearly 11 hours had epidural which done nothing, diamorphine which just made me high & gas & air. She was born healthy.

:)

Thanks for your stories ladies im feeling a bit more like i know what happens... still not what i would choose but the baby's health is more important lol x

I was induced at 35 weeks with my first had 4 lots of the gel so few internals which arent all that comfortable my waters broke 25 hrs after the induction process started and I was 1 cm (10pm) had to b continuously monitored and was put on the drip as monitor not picking my contractions up properly. had gas and air from bout midnight when drip started. contractions came quite close together and drip was stopped bout 2 am i think !! delivered my son at 03.02 no problems did scream for pethedine but delivered my son so quick after didnt have time to kick in !!

I was allowed to go natural with my second and can honestly say i dont think there was much difference between the pain starts off with period type cramps that get stronger.

being induced at 38 weeks with this one too as i'm classed as high risk and have SPD which is causing pain.they may bring that forward if i have any issues with growth again though xxx
