so I am 40 weeks plus 2 days.

Today I have been having short sharp pains in the abdomen/ pelvis area when I am sat down. They tend to go away if standing or lying. Very slight back ache too.

Then some very mild pain in stomach area if in reclining position.

Are these very early contractions or something else?

I wouldn't say they were contractions. Could be things loosening up ready for labour or a pinched nerve. Contractions wouldn't stop if you lay down.

Bit of Braxton Hicks perhaps. As Marvellous says, contractions definitely dont stop if you lay down.

I saw you mention on another thread that you dont know what contractions should feel like so just wanted to say, if you've every had that pain that starts in your tummy just before your period is due, it's a very distinct pain and you just know your period is about to start? I would say labour contractions starting is similar. I absolutely knew somehow that this was it this time. Hope that gives you some help/reassurance xx

Thanks. That’s the problem I’ve never had any pain before a period so I don’t know what that feels like either.

I knew they weren’t like real contractions but just wondered if this may have been the start of something. Especially as I then had when I was lying down in bed the early hours of this morning.

Fingers crossed bub wont keep you waiting too much longer. Being overdue is no fun as you jump at every little twinge (almost in hope!)
