Anterior Placenta

I was told at my 20 week scan that I have an anterior placenta. The midwife asked if I'd felt any movement or kicks yet and when I told her I have felt some movements she told me I won't feel anything until 26 weeks. This may be my first pregnancy but I know for sure what I'm feeling is my baby moving!

Um, ignore the 26 weeks thing. What a load of bollocks! You know when it's baby. Xxx

This! You know when it's baby x what a silly midwife! Everyone is different x

Hi all, another first time mum here. I've been told I have anterior placenta but have also been told that it will probably move at some point, but if it doesn't it can cause complications during labour. Has anyone experienced this? Don't know if I'm worrying over nothing!

It depends on the position of it, if it's high and away from the cervix you should be okay, only if it's lower down it can sometimes block baby's exit x does it say anything else? Or just anterior? Might be worth asking what they meant by that

As Jamie says, it's only an issue if it drops down over the cervix as that will mean a c section will be needed. Do you have a scan pic at all? You should be able to see it on that. Z

Thanks both - It only came to light at 16 weeks because my midwife couldn't find a heartbeat so got sent for an emergency scan, as it wasn't planned they didn't give me any scan pics. To be honest I kind of zoned out after I realised everything was ok with baby! My notes just say that the placenta is anterior, nothing more. Think I'll have a chat with my midwife, and maybe stay off Google!

They would have known at the 16 week scan you had if it was in danger of dropping low and out you under consultant care maybe...at least referred you to an appointment with the anaesthetist as you have to see them prior to an epidural for a c section. So...go relax, more than 50% of us pregnant women have anterior placenta...it just means it's at the front, not the back and it can take a little longer to feel the movements but otherwise, in a normal position, it doesn't change a thing. Xx

I just found out today that I have it too! I have started feeling baby but only this last week! So lovely feeling little kicks x

Even at 34 week I can only feel the baby at the sides a down low. It's so strange seing my bump move in the middle but cannot feel anything, well other than when my ribs are involved but that's another story lol

Gosh, I feel very lucky then as I feel kicks absolutely everywhere. Strange things, these bodies of ours. X

I thought the kicks would be more muffled this time too! but it genuinely feels like this baby is trying to break out sometimes!

I had the strangest sensation last night that the baby was reaaally low down, pregnancy is strange!

This is nothing like my last pregnancy that's for sure. What makes its worse is baby is breech and I can definitely feel my lady bits being used as a trampoline lol

Oh blimey! Mine moves about al over and is super active. Shocked the midwife this morning when she put the doppler on, lol.

Hi all , I’m 24 weeks now and constantly feeling baby kick inside and out recently.. My partner can now feel him too, and we can even see it slightly happen from outside! Just in case any of you are worrying. An anterior placenta doesn’t mean you won’t feel anything ! I had my doubts !
A bit of patience and it will happen! Xxxx
