Hello All!

I hope you guys are all good and enjoying your pregnancies so far,

Just wondered if anyone else could alleviate my paranoia really..I have been told I have an anterior placenta which I have read means the baby's kicks will be cushioned and I may not feel much until a bit later on. I have been feeling our daughter's kicks the last week or so (i'm 23 weeks and 2 days) but some days are more active than others. I usually only feel when i've been sitting / lying down in the evening but pccasionally in the morning. There have been days where i've not felt much at all.

Just wondered if anyone has had this? And how they dealt with it? I think i'll be the happiest person in the world when baby starts really kicking! The kicks when they do come are awesome, strange but awesome and I wish i could feel her more :(

If anyone had any advice or experience, that would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and Happy Friday! xx

Hey I too had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy, and I can say that I felt nothing until about 20 weeks and even then i wasn't sure. But once he got bigger the movement became stronger and more frequent and so much more reassuring. I can't remember exactly when I stared feeling it really regularly but once he did start and it got stronger he was very active and it is so lovely, definitely know it once they are behind the ribs haha with this baby I am not sure where placenta is yet so will be interested to find out next week.

Hoping you get big kicks soon :) and feel more reassured, but I would say what your feeling is completely normal:) xxx

Hey, I have an anterior placenta too, currently 24+2 weeks and I'm the same, sometimes LO is kicking me throughout the day, then others times like for the last couple of days I think I've only felt one or two kicks! Everyone says it's completely normal and not to worry but I know exactly how you feel. I have a midwife appointment on Monday so I'm going to quiz them about it, she said last time to call if I'm worried about reduced movement but with an anterior placenta it's really difficult to tell whether they are moving or not!

I had an anterior with my second and only ever felt movement in the right hand side as my placenta was front left. I felt little movement from about 16 weeks but nothing big until about 24 weeks. Do make a mental note of her current movement though, as a pattern will start to establish soon :)

I think I must be weird because I felt my second baby at 12 weeks (just the twisting bubbly motion) then once kicks started never had trouble feeling them so I was really surprised when I saw my notes at the end of the pregnancy and they said anterior placenta. I'd never been told I had that so perhaps I was better off because I never worried about it. The kicking regularly definitely comes a bit later on I think, just try not to worry as they are still pretty tiny in there. And if you are worried then try the drinking ice water and lying on your side to wake them up. Or I remember drinking pink lemonade lucozade used to wake my first up and she would go nuts in there! X

Mine is anterior and I'm 22 weeks tomorrow. Felt flutters from about 16 weeks but I'm glad it's cushioned as i don't like it to be honest as it freaks me out. I'm very squeamish

I have an anterior placenta this time and I'm not feeling the kicks as strongly as I did with my other babies but I'm definitely still feeling them, and now at 26 weeks they're strong enough for my husband to feel aswell. I wouldn't worry it makes it harder to feel those early on kicks but by time baby gets to 24 weeks (which is when you're rally meant to start noticing a pattern) baby should be big enough for you to feel even with placenta in the way. My LO has started kicking downwards into my bladder this week which is lovely haha I can definitely feel that, ouch! Xx

I had the same concern last week. My placenta is anterior but high so I've felt movements really good for the past few weeks, however recently I've been feeling less and less. I phoned the midwife and they brought me up to check HB and everything was fine. Was just told that the baby can still move into a position that can make it harder to feel them at this stage and as long as I'm still feeling movement everything should be okay. This is my second and I'm trying not to be overly paranoid about things this time but it is hard lol. If you're really worried you can always call your midwife or triage at your maternity hospital to put your mind at ease :)

Mine is also anterior and I'm at 20+2 and I'm not sure if I've felt anything yet. Like you, I can't wait until it's obvious!

I'm sure it'll come but I think it's normal when the placenta is there. I guess you will probably be only feeling it when it moves or kicks around the placenta, which obviously will only be some of the time.

I actually phoned the triage unit this morning because I've had noticeably less kicks the last couple of days and she said you won't notice regular movements until about 28 weeks. She's told me to try drinking something cold or eating something sweet - I'm sure I'm still getting very faint movement but it's hard to distinguish, im hoping his just hiding behind the placenta!

I wouldn't be happy about that JulyBug, it's 24 weeks you should notice a pattern... check out Kicks Count on facebook. I'd phone them back xx

Well I finally had a few little kicks this afternoon so feeling abit better, I haven't noticed a pattern yet and his kicks are always sporadic.. I've spoken to my own midwife too and she also said she wouldn't expect to see a pattern this early and due to the placenta being anterior he could just be on an awkward position.. the triage midwife did phone me back and was lovely and very helpful. xx

Thanks to all for your lovely comments. I had my midwife appointment today and feel a bit better - I was told the same as you JulyBug re not noticing regular movements until 28 weeks etc. I got to hear the heartbeat and stuff as well which was a huge help though. Stupid anterior placentas!
Baby is measuring at 25 weeks size wise (not 24 as I should be!) Little lady is not going to be so little i think....eeep!

Hope you ladies are all well - does anyone else feel like their pregnancies are zipping by?!?! xx

Yay, so glad it all went well, its so reassuring hearing that little heartbeat isn't it! My midwife said she could feel my boy moving all over the place but i couldn't feel anything lol I was measuring 26cm and I was 24+4, I think it'd hard to get a precise measurement tbh so little lady might still be little!

Since my first scan the weeks have flown by!.. I can't believe I'm almost in the third trimester! Scary!

xx
