Hi everyone!...

I am very new in here but just wondering has anyone of you experienced something called antepartum haemorrhage?

I am on my first pregnancy, after two previous miscarriages and now am currently 26 weeks.
Some weeks ago I was diagnosed with UTI and the doctor prescribed canesten cream which did not work as I went to the doctor on week 24 and detected that I had still the same thing. So doc prescribed some other cream and pessary that I had to take for 7 days.

I did that but just after finishing the 7 days (which was Wednesday) I started spotting. I went to work as normal and apart from brown/pink spotting I did not have anything else. Then Saturday morning I woke up and went to the loo and saw some dark pink spotting and a small clot (small as a finger nail) that came out.
I went straight to the hospital and they kept me in observation until the evening. I felt (and still feeling) baby moving the heart beat was checked twice and it was good, the first doctor did a vaginal speculum examination and she did not find anything abnormal, she told me my cervix was closed and there was no trace of fresh blood. She felt my tummy and that's it.
I did have a few cramps but it did not seem to worry the doctor or midwife. The second doctor came in the evening, she asked me a few questions and read my notes and said she was going to discharge me because there was nothing really major and that they did not know where this spotting was coming from.

She said to book an appointmet with the consultant and also she suggested they would maybe give me two steroids injections and maybe a 28 weeks scan to see how the baby is developing.

On my notes it was marked APH (antepartum haemorrhage).... so now I am slightly worried...although the doctor reassured me that everyhitng it's fine I do not understand about this spotting that I have been having. And I was just wondering if anyone in the forum has ever had a similar experience????

Thanks for passing by..
Stef

Hi hun, I have no experience quite like yours, but I did spot at times during my pregnancy and there was found to be no explanation for it and my LO and pregnancy were fine. Hopefully someone with more clue will be along soon :D

Thanks Cantstop!!..... I have managed to book an appointment with the consultant today...will see what he says and if he can do a scan today or not...still feeling baby moving!!!! so that is good thing...

Ah that's good! Hope you get some answers today (and fingers crossed for a cheeky scan!) x

Well I went to see the consultant....no scan until next week. She said I should have two scans one week 28 and weeks 32 to monitor baby's growth. She felt my tummy and said that it seems as if baby is growing well and the hear beat is good as well...the spotting that I have been having can be nothing or she said that sometimes it can come from the placenta as well.
Will see next week when I have the scan...

Hi there

I had the same problem. At 18 weeks I passed a large clot and quite a bit of blood. I went to hospital and had an internal exam and cervix was closed but inflammed. Dr thought it was cervical erosion however the following day I had an ultrasound and they saw a small area of the placenta which looked as though it had been bleeding.

No treatment was recommended and the bleeding happened again 5 days later. I didn't go to hospital this time and it stopped as soon as it started. Am really hoping it doesn't happen again but keep checking heartbeat using my doppler and all seems fine.

I'm now 19 weeks and looking forward to 20 week scan next week!
