Just a quick question. Have any of you signed up to antenatal classes? did you have to ask for them or did your midwife approach you about them. My midwife hasnt said anything about them to me and im wondering what to do about it.

I found my own as the midwife didnt seem to know anything about them.

I am going to a really good one called babycoaching, they have sandwhiches and cake and beer for the blokes. I also go to a local NHS one which is ok but not as much fun.

Im going to the birth centre at my local hospital Friday. Its a PR exercise really, ive opted to give birth at another hospital as there are going to be doctors there. The midwives at my practise are a bit shirty about my choice and are sending me to see this birth centre anyway  I will enquire about classes then.

I was thinking the same thing today, so rang my midwife and she enroled me today.

I got a letter from the hospital inviting me to them as from 28wks.
I went to one, but found them uninteresting and very very boring - havent been to one in a long while now. Anything i need to know i find out through my midwife or on here. lol.

MW didn't tell me about them... the hospital did at the booking in appt.

I rang up at 22 weeks but they said I was too early so I have to ring them again sometime this week.

They'll only run them in my area if there are more than 5 ladies going. :(

I'm not worried about going but it's OH's first baby and he'd like to go!

my midwife has not said a thing to me either....

but i do see her next week so maybe she'll say something... come to think of it when i saw her i was early.. abit to early for classes

I asked my midwife last week about antenatal/parentcraft classes, filled out a form and got a call today inviting us along to evening classes that start next week. Four x 2 hour classes every Tuesday. I'll be 32 weeks pregnant next week by the time they start and this is our first baby so boy do we need them!

we're going to parentcraft next week, is that the same thing?
my MW signed me up for them; throughout my pregnancy i'v been a bit dumb and let MW lead all my appointments- i just dont kno what i'm supposed to do regarding all things antenatal... so i just leave it to them!

In my area the NHS antenatal classes focused mostly on labour, knowing when to go into hospital and the facilities at the hospital, what interventions may be used, pain management and birth preferences. Didn't cover any of the 'parent craft' stuff like bathing / feeding baby etc.

My NCT classes covered a bit of parent craft.

I found the classes to be fantastic for meeting people - in fact I'm still in really close contact with everyone from my NCT classes - we're all close friends and meet up most weeks. But they sadly didn't prepare me for labour or childbirth - in fact they may have even made things worse as I'd harboured certain expectations in terms of the length of labour, and didn't really know there was such a thing as 'pre labour'. I guess everyone has a different experience though.

LBxx

Good luck lella, hope you find classes you're comfortable with  My MW mentioned ante-natal classes in Tri1 but hasn't since, but have decided not to have any now anyway, and are finding out what we need to know through lots of reading, hypnobirthing, and homebirth group meetings, where practising MW's and other mums have plenty of advice and knowledge :)

I didnt go to any antenatal classes, stupid MWs fault :shakehead:
I dont even need to go for them for the next baby lol, itl b planned c section lol  i feel left out :(
