Do I breastfeed and then give food or the other way round?

I'm struggling with this a bit I.e getting the right balance of milk/food etc

i asked HV this week and she told me milk first then food. its all so confusing, i feel a little lost with it all.

always milk first - milk shud be main source of food while weaning. then they wont overeat when weaning as theres no rush and gives u a chance to find your feet with it all!

Good luck ladies, its such an exciting part!! :) xx

My HV told me to do food first then milk :s :s but I always give milk first anyway!

Xxx

That's annoying! How are WE supposed to know what's right/wrong if they don't teach the same things lol xx

I'm taking her to get weighed tomorrow so I'll ask I think the HV

I would always prioritise milk first as there is no way a bit of carrot could give the same nutrients!! and i wouldnt worry how much she is eating, as long as she is still getting plenty of milk. if it helps here is my first stage weaning day. i didn't feed on demand either:

7.30 wake and 7oz bottle
8.30 brekkie
11.30 7 oz bottle
12.30 lunch
3.30 7 oz bottle
4.30 dinner
7.00 8 oz bottle
10.30 7 oz bottle

in general i left it an hour between milk and food! it worked really well for us!

Thanks for this!

I asked the HV and she said do what you like basically :wall2:

I think there is some truth in that - whatever you do it has to work for both of you!! No point turning feeding into a battlefield!
Hope you find a routine/timetable that works for you - I found that once you started weaning you had to be quite organised but it made the day go really fast!!

I do food inbetween milk! Lol.
7am bottle
9am breakfast
10am bottle
1pm bottle
4pm bottle
6pm tea
7/8pm split bottle before and after bath.
Think we need to start lunch soon as well but God knows when I'll fit it in. Seems like all I do at the moment is feed this child! Ha ha!

It is tough isn't it.

I've been giving a bit of breakfast after I feed T bag at about 8.30 and then she's fed at 11 milk and 2.30 milk and then tea between 5-5.30 and feed at 6.30 for bed. I have been feeding her at 10.30 but I'm going to cut that out tonight!

i do food first, i.e
7am booby
8.30am readybrek with fruit
9am booby
nap
10am booby
11.30am lunch toast/sandwich
12 booby
nap
1pm booby
2pm snack rice cakes or something light
3pm booby
nap
4pm booby
5pm tea
6pm get ready for bed
7pm booby
bed

she might not take a lot at most of these bf feeds as shes not used to taking large bf milkfeeds and has gone off her bottles of formula so is almost solely bf for milk but has water or juice with her meals and loves it

That seems like a lot of booby bev! Does she only feed for a couple of minutes or so?

yeah like 5 mins the feeds after she wakes up are usually more like proper feeds of 10 mins maybe but the before nap onesare usually just for comfort. the ones before her naps are usually more using me as a dummy than actual feeds and she may skip one or two of those as and when she feels like, i offer and if she wants to she will have a suck and if not then she just goes straight for her nap.

I was just going to say Bev, you are a booby machine!! Lol

lol its cos shes pretty much dropped the bottles of formula and uses me as a dummy, i dont mind as if i cant do any of those she dosent complain either
