Didn't want to hijack Tasha's thread, but just had a little question :)
Can you take a car seat on a plane? It sounds dumb but I read on ryanair's website that you can take a pram for free, but there's no mention of car seats. And if you can take them, where does it go? Ours is quite bulky so probably wouldn't be classed as hand luggage. But does that mean I'd have to pay for it as 'extra' luggage?
I will need it as soon as we land because we are hiring a car to get to our destination...unless car hire places also hire out car seats???

I absolutely hate travelling with a passion, if I had it my way I wouldn't even leave Norfolk  so I want to have everything clear in my head so I don't worry about it too much!

I 'think' most car hire places hire them out, the one we hired ours from in menorca did in 2009 as Our friend hired one for there little boy. where are you off to? we're being Boring and staying in norfolk! xx

We're off to Slovakia because my brother's getting married there in June (his girlfriend is Slovakian). I'm so nervous about the whole thing already but at least all my family will be there so we'll all be country bumpkins together lol :)

I'm not sure about the budget airlines but with BA for example you can also take the car seat for free as well as the buggy.

Hope you have a lovely time, Im sure it'll be fine! xx

Ive flown with most budget airlines etc and never had a problem taking buggy and carseat. If its a travel system just leave it together but make sure you tell them so they put separate tags on seat and buggy. You have to check it in at special luggage area but ive never been charged for one.

I was wondering about this myself, so thank you for asking first!

What happened when I moved was we were allowed to take the buggywheels + car seat (yay for travel system!) up to the plane door.. a porter then took it down to be put in cargo and gave it us back at the plane door when we got off.

As far as I know I didn have to pay extra but I didnt check myself in so there could have been a surcharge. I doubt it though.

I will say.. Its a right faff at the plane door.. get baby out.. dismantle buggy.. on your own Lol with people pushing past you to get on !

Keep assertive and make em wait.. I got on the first flight and was trying to juggle baby and my hand luggage, to get the back up in the over head shelf..

Did people help? No they just pushed past me and grumbled because i was holding them up..

Stupid people, the plane isnt gonna leave any earlier!

Be careful, Ryanair will charge you to breathe on their flights soon!! The policy goes that if you can fold it all down together then it's counted as one pushchair. If you have to separate them then they can get arsey and make you pay extra. Here's what they say about it

I think the less budget-y airlines are better and more accommodating but definitely check it all out before you book!!

I asked this today when lookin at flights in the travel agents!

Lady there said the same as above, normally you can take both no probs if there a little person (under2) and dont "normally" charge extra, i wondered about taxis too, were goin to tenerife in april( if passport comes back soon) and wont need the car seat at all while we are there except for to and from the airport :-/

Most places (including the UK) allow a taxi transfer, in the UK they prefer you to use one of the black cabs, as long as your sitting rearward facing. The police woman who gave our postnatal group a talk said it's fine as long as it's a short journey and you have no other safe option, or in an emergency. Also if you are booking a taxi in advance some taxi's do have car seats, so worth asking if you can.
