Just wondered if maternity pads were any better/more absorbent than sanitry towels? I have a load of "Always" sanitry towels and just wondered if I could use these instead of spending more on maternity towels??
Do you mean for after giving birth? Definately use maternity pads. The bleeding will be heavy afterwards and normal pads won't be absorbant enough. Midwives also tell you to use them because normal pads can mask any infections.
Maternity pads are much more absorbent - and you'll need something super absorbent fr the first few days after birth. I actually used the ones in the hospital as they were much better than the standard maternity ads I had taken with me from Tesco.
I'm using the tesco ones and they are fine, no mishaps or leaks. The one thing I was not prepared for was how roasting hot the labour and maternity wards are if the pads had been plastic backed like Always I seriously think they would have been soooooo uncomfortableand would make you very sore
normal pads would NOT absorb everything like maternity pads. they had some on the ward in my hospital, and the hozzie ones were even better than the maternity pads i bought off the shelf.
for the first 2 days i had to do double decker style (1 on top of the other) especially at night. And the thickness has helped with the soreness and sitting down on my piles! LMAO.. Glamorous! xx
i went through about 10 packs and i only bled for 2 weeks...mind you i was changign them every time i went to the loo to prevent my cut getting infected
I went through sooo many maternity pads! Defo use them rather then normal sanitary pads. Have at least two or three packs! Can always get some more after a couple of days.x
Just a question while we are on this subject - how many maternity pads did you pack in your hospital bags? I've bought quite a few packs just not sure how many to pack and our hospital is 30 miles from our house and don't think OH could cope with trying to find them in asda! haha xx
I started with the thick tesco ones and doubled up on them at first. I had a few leaking incidents though one in hospital where I stood up out of bed and it just missed the pad and came running down my leg and once at home. Poor hubby has to clean the carpet.
I've been using the mothercare slimline ones since about day 3 cod they have wings. They are much less absorbent though
