Hi,

I've been off of the Depo-Provera for over 6 months now and have not had any sign of a period since. I've been to the Doctors and I am getting some blood tests done this week to see if there are any underlying issues as to why they've not returned at all.

I am just looking for any advice really on what to do if there isn't any underlying issues and how I can get the depo out of my system?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks!

Can take 12-18months for fertility to return after depo! It's a disadvantage of using it..you should have been told this before you started it... it's not a good method of contraception for someone planning pregnancy within the next year!

I understand that now which is annoying as that was never explained when I initially went onto it.

I am just wondering if there is anyways to help get it out of my system. I have read online to try and loose weight as it is stored in fat cells however i'm not overweight as it is so I don't particularly want to loose any weight. :(

Sounds quite frustrating. If youre a healthy weight and not want to lose weight then just being patient. It might not take as long as 12-18 months for you hopefully. Being underweight can also effect your af's so would recommend to sit tight and enjoy trying! Hope its not too long for you x

I heard it can take a while after the depo to go back to normal. If your bloods are good you could always ask them for something to start a bleed. If your TTC I think that's a reasonable request after 6 months.

Ahh yes I will try that. What sort of thing can they give me to get the cycle going again?

Northesterone. I have that when I have a mammoth cycle. You take it for 10days and then start bleeding afterwards. I had to have it last cycle so I could start my clomid.

Hiya I had this same problem after6 months I was referred to a gynae ( I was high risk of other fertility issues due to chemotherapy so I was referred sooner) they do say it can take up to a year for it to come out of your system they don't usually do any checks until after a year, I was given norethisterone which didn't work what my gynae then did was put me on the pill for 2 months although this sounded crazy to me and very frustrating it helps the lining of your womb to start building up again which the depo destroys. This worked for me and I've had my first natural period it kick starts your body to go back to normal. It's the only thing really to build that lining up quickly again, I hope this helps

ahh thank you for that, I had some bloods done on Thursday so if nothing irregular come back in that I may ask my Doctor if I can try that. I've also purchased some of those vitamins that detox you that a lady previously mentioned and have started taking them this weekend so fingers crossed they help too.

Thank you!

Hopefully everything's ok with your bloods, mine came back fine and although I was gutted at having to take the pill to get put right it's worked out better for me because I could have potentially gone another 6-12 months with no periods fingers crossed for you x

Which type of pill did you go back onto? Bloods came back completely fine which is good but equally annoying! I've got Desogestrel (which I belive is the mini pill) from when I initially came of the depo and wasn't 100% if we were going to start trying and ended up not taking them. Do I need to go onto a mini pill or combined pill to help kick start them again? Or does it not make a difference.

Hi Hun my experience wasn't a good one
I had the depo around five years and a couple odd times after.
It took me a year to bleed and four years after coming off to get pregnant with my first x
I went on the pill last year and fell pregnant
Hopefully doctor will give you some answers xx

I was given a pill called Yasmin I took it for the 21 days and it worked a treat hope this helps
