I write this as on bottle dutie at 3.45am and waiting for my LO to fall asleep  so thought I'd type up my birth story for my 1st birth...

On the Tue 4.2.14 my waters broke at 7am, rang Durham hospital to explain that I thought my waters had gone told me to get some b/fast and come when ready. We arrived at the hospital and they did all the checks but while I was there it felt like I was starting with very mild contraction or I just thought BH, they sent me home.
Told me to check my temp like every 4 hrs and if contractions didn't get any more to go back next morning for 7am or if they did just ring.

So at this bit I get a bit of a blur with so much happening on that day... I remember getting all my LO things ready in our room like Moses basket and few odd and sods. It felt like I started to get more regular contractions and thought I better start to keep track. So downloaded an app on my iPhone to keep track as they started to feel much stronger and more closer together and the cramp from the contractions was really starting to kick in as the day got on ( late afternoon ).

Now is the funny part of my birth story ... 1st phone call to hospital ... "Just keep track of contractions and if 3-4 in every 10 mins call back" (bearing in mind I had about 3-4 contractions within the time they said while I was on the phone both times to them but yet still told me to stay at home).... So while keeping track on my iPhone I'm starting to get roughly near that and tell my partner I so wanted to go to hospital so he rang again 2nd phone call to hospital, told them I was keeping track of them on my iPhone using a an app and all I got from them was " Don't use that app, just use a normal clock to keep track... Go have a warm bath... (at this point I stated I didn't have a bath but just a walk in shower) " Well go sit in the shower for a while and ring back ".

I did this for how ever long and the contractions were now starting to get ever more stronger. I was in tears in the shower while my OH was there, I said I just wanted to get to the hospital. My OH decided that the hospital was taking the piss so rang them to say he was bringing me down only to be told " well if she isn't in labour she will only be sent home! " OH quickly got the every thing ready and made our way to the hospital. When we finally got there, the midwife check me over and her face was a picture ... " oh my your 9cm ... She is defiantly on her way! ". Me and my partner were gob smacked  I couldn't believe it...

I told MF I wanted a pool birth so she quickly went to fill it which felt like a life time, I finally got wheeled in pool and climbed in. The water was lovely and so relaxing from what I can remember. Only had gas and air for pain.... Not that it felt like it was doing anything but just helping me breathing .... My OH holding me and could see I was ready for the last push, my baby girl was born at 9.29pm and weighting 7lb 5.

I unfortunately ended up with 2nd degree tear due to her coming out head then shoulders in 1 contraction.

Now my birth story may not sound to bad but tbh... I'm really shocked at the care I got from Durham Hospital... First getting fobbed of twice about just staying at home even though we told them about the length of time between contractions.... I had my daughter at 9.29pm and didn't get my stitches near 1am... we hardly saw anybody inbetween and even if we did it was a good few hours. One nurse made my OH feel belittled also, while I was in the shower (wish to god I had been there, she would of got a mouthful!). So overall my birth wasn't how it thought it would be but never the less my baby Amber is here and that's the main thing!

I'm on my iPad ATM so will post a pic when I get to my PC in the morning

Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see your pictures xx

Sorry to hear that your experience wasn't as good as it could have been..
Glad she's safe & well.. Congrats!! Xxx

Oh my god. I had Olly in Durham last June and the care was unreal. I had my boy at 1.31am and I suffered a hemmeroge (sp) and 2nd degree tear,so it took a while to kerb the bleeding but I was still on the bed with my legs in stirrups 3 hours later, and I didn't get a shower until 5am , had to ask for tea and toast. They kept me in the delivery room over night then my husband came back at 11 then they just packed my stuff and tried to wheel Olly and hubby over to the other ward while I was in the shower ! They also wouldn't give me any water while still in delivery suite, told me I had to buy it from the vending machine. My midwife Amy was amazing and if I could guarantee I could have her for my next baby then id go back but the midwives in post natal were really bad. They started our discharge at 6.30pm, they didn't finish it until 11.20pm ... We looked idiots leaving the hospital with a new baby at bloody midnight ! Forgot to say that they let us walk out without Olly being checked over by the pead doctor. But my boy got here safe and that's all that matters to me.

Congrats on the birth of your angel xx

Queenriccy that is shocking! I lost count how many MF I saw from her being born. They keep my in the room right next door to the birth pool because there wasn't any bed on the wards. Also when I arrived it was a change over shift so they hadn't even read my birth plan notes or nothing. Plus the MF that was seeing to me I hardly saw as she was looking after 2 more other woman too. So overall I wasnt impressed at all with Durham Maternity Unit.

I've just seen this - huge congratulations - she's gorgeous and well done you despite the hospital! Never guess where I'm having my baby! Hmmm! This doesn't fill me with confidence at all! X

Told my HV about it and said I should of put a complaint in about what happen as she was shock at the poor treatment I got even with me being a first time mum too. Tbh I told her what was the point and was just glad I don't have to go through that again. My LO was ok and we were home that was all I was bothered about. So she took some details down and would pass them on. I really hope all goes well for you Vic30 and have a better birthing experience than I did at that hospital.
