i know theres not a right or wrong way as every baby is different but i am starting to panic about the way i make up Ava's bottles.

i expressed milk for the first 3 days as Ava was in neo natal but then moved onto bottle feeding. at the hospital the milk was room tempo so i though id do the same at home.

i make up 5 bottles for 24 hours with Ava and store them in the cupboard, is this wrong? should i be making 3 in the morning then 2 at night? or is it ok to make up the 5 and store them in the cupboard and then give them at room temp?

HV has never given me tips on feeding so i need your help!

Personally, I make up the bottles and then put them in the fridge... and heat them up as needed - only to around room temp, he never has them warm.

OR you could, put the water in all the bottles, adn then add the milk when LO wants it?! I would not make them up and keep them in the cupboard. Just put the formula in the bottles when shes hungry, then there room temp and fresh! :)

hi hun im not bottle feeding but i know u shud deff not keep bottles in the cupboard they need 2 be kept in the fridge until u need them then heated in hot water some ppl use microwave but hv dont recomend that becoz u can get heat spots,

the reason milk needs 2 be kept cold is it is a breeding ground 4 bacteria
or make bottles up as and when u need them

somebody else will b able 2 help u more as i havent made up a bottle in my life lol
bubs is happy with booby

take care xx

What I do is, fill the bottles with boiled water in the morning and just leave them on the work top. When I need one I just add the powder so it's fresh. The water in the cupboard will be fine but i'd be a bit wary of actual mixed milk. It doesn't take 2 secs to put the powder in and shake when you need a feed made up. HTH.

I do sort of the same as Alex but I make up the bottles with 4/5oz then add 3/4oz of hot water when needed and add the powder so they are slightly warm. I find the powder I use mixes better when the bottles are slightly warm and I cba with cooling them down if using boiling hot water for the whole feed.

I leave them on the worktop until I need them and I do all 5 bottles in the morning for the day ;)

If you want to make it even easier buy a milk powder dispenser and meausre out your milk for the day then its a case of pour and go! I use the Tommee Tippee ones

 i feel really bad now!

we used to add the milk when it was needed but found it never mixed right and i read somewhere about the water needing to be warm so that the water can kill bacteria from the formula.

think we will go with what you do Bee

thanks

Don't feel bad - its all trial and error ;) I used to make up the right amount in the morning then add the powder but it wasn't mixing right and Finlay was quite sick so tried a different way of making it up :D
