I'm probably going to sound really thick but I'm confused on my green pregnancy notes that the midwife writes on. I know they don't all necessarily mean anything, and baby could come at anytime, but I'm just nosy and want to understand! :)

I'm 38+1. My fundal height is 37 - which means 37 weeks? But on the growth chart the baby is way on the top line. So it's fat but behind a week?

She also wrote "awaiting events" and I had to go back and ask her to expand on that and fill in the rest of the boxes. Apparently by "awaiting events" she means imminent and the baby is due any time...

It's 3/5 engaged now, it was 4/5 engaged this time last week. Is that a good progression? Does it mean anything?

Sorry, I'm just nosy and want to know what it all means cos it sounds like it's all conflicting.. :wall:

I am sure if you LO is engaged then your bump will be measuring smaller... i think them measurements are a load of crap anyway!!

LO can be engaged for 5-6 weeks before labour or never they just pop out haha..... but its good to know your baby is getting ready xxxxxx

I'm a good example that measurements are a load of crap.
You probably know anyway as I went on about it loads but at my last m/w appointment my fundal height was 2 weeks behind but at the growth scan the baby was perfectly normal. At my next appointment (next week) if she say's im measuring behind again then I wont pay attention at all.

3/5 means the midwife can feel three-fifths of your baby's head still, ie. there's two-fifths of it engaged in your pelvis.

So the less she can feel, the more engaged it is (if that makes sense!).

I get the engaged thing, I just don't get how if the fundal thing puts me back a week or so how it can be fat, 3/5 and 'imminent'.. Looking at my chart, the fundal height has been 1 week behind all the way through.. so does that mean I'm likely to go one week overdue? In which case why does she seem to think I'm due anytime?

Sorry, it's the whole fundal thing.. I can't my head round how they can measure anything by a tape measure and expect it to mean something, cos all babies are different..

The head being enagaed and the baby slipping into your pelvis can mean your fundal height is smaller at the end, its different for everyone and as your tiny sweetie, then yes that sounds like what has happened.

Dont worry bout measurments though! Vicky is right and they can be so far from the truth its unreal.

I have a growth scan sometime next week i trhink so il let you know how crap good the measurments are

Fundal height can be right and wrong and so take no notice, as for LO's 'weight', that's all estimated too, not a fact. What you need to remember is mother nature made your baby the right size for you, and should anything change to that effect, there are ways to help you and baby

The fundal height was practised by MW's before we had scans as there was no other way to 'estimate' how far along the mum was, no idea why they still do it, mine was always out by 3wks, which showed he was growing steadily, nothing eratic just not 'according to the fundal height system' Isaac was a healthy 8lb 2oz :D

where abouts does it say where your babys engaged?

In the bit where your midwife writes... "Antenatal Visits" its page 15 in my green notes.. Along the top its the box called "Eng" and they're sposed to either write 'free' or an engaged number in it... Should be next to where they put "Pres" (presentation) and "Lie".

only thing i can see that has 3/5 and 2/5 is in the column of relation p.p to brim suppose it could be that. mines not that clear lol

just googled it and it found this site it is about engaged :) dont say which way but when i saw her babys haed was down there but last appt had anotehr mw and she didnt say.
