I get allergies pretty bad during the spring and summer, and my doctor said it would be alright to take Loratadine 10 mg. I don't usually buy it when doctors say those kinds of things are okay, but some days I suffer from them so badly that I take it occasionally. Does anyone else here experience allergies?

I have hay fever and my GP told me not to take any antihistamines (sorry, not sure if this is correct spelling) but to rely on sprays. I am using Beconase and it is all right.

When I had a skin allergy a few months back, I looked into taking antihistamines. I found that the newer non-sedating antihistamines eg loratidine are not known of their safety profile in pregnancy, but the older sedating ones eg Piriton seems to be safe.

Here's a tip that someone told me about to prevent hayfever symptoms: rub a thin layer of Vaseline inside your nostrils to stop the pollen entering your system.

Thanks so much guys! It sounds like I should switch to something else. I can't really ask my doctor though because I feel like she okays everything.

Hi Josie,
I have very severe allergies and have to take antihistamines daily or else I would have an asthma attack and be a snottery, wheezy, runny eyed freak!

I was worried about this too, but both my GP and medical consultant at the Queen Mum's maternity hospital told me that Zirtek (which is the one I take) is fine and that antihistamines have only been found to cause problems with pregnancy when taken in high doses (for example 10 tabs a day instead of 1!) and I guess that's true for any drug!

xxx

Thanks Lainey, I am the same way so that's good to hear. :D

I get really bad hayfever and it started really early this year so I went to the doctors and got something on prescription after he looked up loads of stuff and found something that I could have and in my forgetful state I cannot remember what it is called  Best to just go and see what your doctor recommends
