Hi all,

Who abstains from alcohol ?

Either:

1) while you were trying
2) or just after ovulation (until AF arrives) just in case you are PG ?

Do you think it makes a difference ?

I have to be honest and enjoy at least one glass of wine most nights (often 2).. wondering if I should be abstaining really ??

Part of me thinks, when I get my BFP I will have a year off drinking of course, so I should enjoy while I can. The other part of me thinks - it might take months/years to conceive, if at all. So that's a long time to abstain.

Do I sound like an alcoholic lol !?!?!

Thoughts ?

xx

Due to my genetic condition iv bn advised not to drink alcohol as my liver bloods are not like normal peoples but the month before i found out i was pregnant i had thrown myself into playing with the pipeband an of course with it being first season with them i celebrated with a few alcoholic drinks an it was nice to actually not care if that makes sense xx

I abstained for about 6 months but then decided to try and relax about ttc so I drink when I want now. I don't think it makes any difference at all and neither does our consultant xx

When we first started TTC I abstained but then I thought this could take years. I try to not drink too much during 2ww just in case. I'll stop when I get my BFP obviously.

I'd have gone insane, TTC for 4 years..... Plenty of time to come hopefully where I won't be drinking

Plus it helps get over the depression of AF arriving lol
PP xXx

I had a few drinks up to conceiving, but I don't drink much anyway so it's not been hard to abstain since then (even before my bfp). I only drink when I'm out with friends and I've not been out since (4 weeks ago now!) lol.
I won't be drinking now til after the baby is born.

All that said, in the first few weeks after conception the baby is a clump of dividing cells and what you eat or drink doesn't affect the baby and can't get to it. It's not really an issue until the embryo implants at around 10-14 days after conception, and then more so once the placenta's formed.

So chances are at 10-14 DPO you may have had your BFP.. so of course I'd abstain then.. x

I rarely drink - but last time TTC I tested from 10dpo and got BFNs, so by the time AF was due I gave up hope.

I had 3 vodkas the day before getting a BFP (8 days after AF) and all was fine.

I will be having a drink this month whilst during my fertile window too as I have an Christmas night out.

Some people argue the case but personally, I dont think unless its a constant binge it would affect your 2WW/TTC, especially being 1-2 glasses a wine. I ate runny eggs and got a drink last time being pregnant and all was well.

For a while you were "recommended" that this was good for you

I may have a drink when my AF arrives. Otherwise I don't drink at all. I also avoid pop because of the caffiene. I may have a pepsi or two during my AF. Nothing any other time. I don't know if any of it makes any difference. 6 months of trying and nothing yet.

I may seem out of place here ....
However, I thought I would pop in.

I don't drink, well once or twice a year to be honest, but my opinion is, personally I say still live your life as you normally would, until you get your BFP. Like a lot you for ladies say, if you have been TTC for a number of years it is a long time to go without having a little tipple.

Even though I do not drink, I do smoke, and I know this will be having an impact on my fertility. If I stopped when I first said. When we started TTC, myself and partner would be smoke free for 4 years. But because I havent yet had that BFP I still havent stopped. We have promised as soon as we find out we stop 100% or depending what happens at our fertility clinic next month.

I haven't been drinking since TTC. But when I got my first period, first cycle, I did have a few lagers because I was sad.
I have cut out caffeine too- I drink decaf/ redbush tea. I gave caffeine up anyway as I have an abnormal heart speed, on tablets to lower it. If I drink caffeine I get palpitations. I've had the odd coffee ( used to love coffee so much )

I don't drink much anyway, but I pretty much stopped when we started TTC. I will have a couple each month when AF arrives if I feel like it.

This isn't always a popular answer but I say drink until you get a pink. I was ttc last summer aged 24 and drank every weekend. I'd have a hen do or wedding or if nothing was on oh and I would go out just to make the most of us time. I was lucky and only ttc for 3 months. Even the month I conceived at 7dpo I was smashed at a wedding. I had a great time. Obviously when I got my bfp I stopped completely and now I have a happy healthy 6 month old. I don't want to be negative but it takes some people ages to conceive. If you enjoy a glass of wine in the evening go for it! I breast feed so even now I've had one heavy night of drinking and maybe 3 other glasses of Malibu and coke or prosecco in 15 months

Took me 15 cycles to conceive so I drank occassionally during that time, some months in my TWW I did not drink any alcohol at all, the month I got my BFP I had a couple of vodka lemonades x
