Did u see on news this morning that they advise now no alcohol at all whilst TTC and in pregnancy. I hope that isnt suggesting i dont have a glass of wine when AF arrives cause i find that helps me! :(

hi

i didnt see the news report but this month i am trying to drink less on my tww. for the last 2 months i have drank about four glasses of wine on sat and sunday night just to chill out. it been years now for me trying to get a successful pregnancy. this month i am trying to stick to one glass a night over the weekend just to see if it makes a difference.

eeek - same for me - the week AF arrives I have a couple of drinks.

Although they have said that there has been no new research - they just feel that it gives a "clearer" message - so we're probably still ok drinking then :D

Didn't see the news, i guess a small amount of alcohol wouldn't matter but i know that we aren't taking any chances - not had a drink in about 3 years so im sure it should all be out of my system by now!

i suppose a glass of wine isnt too bad
peoplen have been doing it for years! and there are plenty of babies around

Yeah they said there is no new scientific evidence but just a precautionary thing - well I'll still be having my bottle of Rose when on my AF thankyou very much!

what about all the people from years and years ago that drank and had healthy babies? I think its to cover there backs, if they didnt say anything and a baby was ill or died because of alcohol people would wanna know why they didnt say owt

I do like a tipple in the evening. I have to admit I only stop drinking around 8 dpo when implantation might occure.

But I do drink in moderation. I guess I migth stop altogether if I don't get pregnant this month (which I will )

I heard it and they said that they believe a large number of pregnant ladies are drinking more that 2 glasses of wine more than twice a week so they think by telling us all to stop completely will work. To be honest I don't think it will make a blind bit of difference because the ones that are drinking excessively will continue to do so. I drank when I was TTC but did reduce the amount and didn't binge drink but then I am 39  and I still got pregnant. Saying that haven't been able to drink whilst being pregnant just totally gone off the stuff which to be honest is a shame cos there've been a couple of times when I would have loved a drink but just couldn't drink it. :( not like me at all. I am sure if you have a few tipples in moderation then you'll be fine. I hope you all get your bfp's very very soon.

Hey smurf! I love it when you pop in here. Gives me a cjance to ogle at your ticker and see how far along you are. Looking good hon, hope it's going well.

I agree that this is more to stop the few who can't stop at a couple glasses of wine when TTC or pregnant. I think there's also a problem with some pregnant ladies thinking they can save up their units of alcohol for a night out! (Ive seen my pregnant niece do this before).
I'll be carrying on with the odd glass of wine at the weekend.

I was listening to this on the radio while in the dentists having root canal this morning!

And it is a bit of a bummer as I am having a BBQ tomorrow and know I wil get wasted which is not good as I am on the 2WW (ticker is wrong)

DH has cut down though which is good and we are both trying to eat better. What else can you do- you have to have some fun in life!

Aw thanks Becs yeah going really well, I can't belive I am on the last 3 boxes where has the time gone.

If we listnened to everything the newspapers and nhs said then we would be locked in our houses in strait jackets!
I have enjoed a few drinks with my pregnancy and im not going to stop now, i look forward to a couple of glasses of archers with lemonade when i go to the pub at the weekend so im not going to stop!
Fact is i have 1 single 25ml archers in a tall glass with lots of lemonade and ice and it relaxes me and i enjoy it! I dont smoke, dont do drugs so im entitled to something li like!
And i dont think anyone should give uop there glass of wine cos someone says so, for years people have enjoyed a beer and wine while pregnant.
Whats changed? :D

I stopped drinking after our honeymoon as I knew we were going to be TTC'ing then. I wouldn't want to chance hurting a baby for the sake of a glass of wine, would rather go t-total and give birth to a healthy baby than indulge and possibly wonder if the condition he's born with is linked. Evidence isn't strong enough to say whether the occassional glass is linked but I'm on the rather safe than sorry side of the argument I have to say. I think the reports on the news today come after some (stupid!) pregnant ladies are still binge drinking through the pregnancy - that is completely different to the occassional tipple. Personal choice I've avoided it since we started TTC and will do so untill I've finished breastfeeding, baby is more important to me than a bottle/glass of wine.

It's very confusing, a girl I used to work with didn't know she was pregnant until she was 7 months, she was drinking every weekend and alot at Christmas. Her baby boy was born in March - Perfectly healthy. Another girl I know didn't realise she was pregnant until she was 6 months gone, she hasn't given birth yet but everything appears normal. I'm not justifying drinking during pregnancy - When I fall pregnant I won't drink atall - But sometimes it can work out okay. Better to be safe then sorry though!

I think that the best way to look at it, just in case! But yeah it is personal choice as long as its not silly amounts. I have a few glasses of wine while on my AF but thats it while TTC, well apart from the odd occasion but not as a habit. I couldnt drink through my previous pregnancies as just the smell made me feel sick, I shared a can of beer with a friend at the cinema when I was 6 months pregnant with my youngest and then had to leg it to the loos to be sick - didnt get there in time and hurled in the lobby  :rotfl:

I gave up drinking with my first prenancy, and i was going too with this one, but i had a craving for archers a while ago!
I dint see when your past your danger point of 12 weeks that you cant enjoy a glass of wine at the weekend or every other evening.
Its the ones who you see heavily pregnant out on the piss, smoking 40 a night that make me cross. And give the rest of us a bad name, ie some woman had a go at me the other night for having abloody coke! she assumed it had vodka or something in it, i was furious!
She did apologise, but why did she assume cos i was in a pub that i was drinking?

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!! Sorry for shouting but just wanted to get that out of my system.
I think we all know that an excess of anything is poterntially bad for you but I don't think one glass of wine whilst TTC will do too much harm.
If you give up everything I think you can get too consumed with TTC and live your whole life around this and thus get more stressed when it doesn't happen that month etc.

I think live a healthy life and see what happens!!

I was always careful what I had to drink in the 2ww then after AF arrived I would treat myself (as I knew I was not pregnant). It basically meant cutting right down but id rather be safe than sorry!

Since being pregnant ive had 1 vodka & coke on holiday and it went straight to my head
