So my O/h certainly knows how to put it away, I mean he can do 10 pints no issues. Of late he’s certainly Laid off it, (a) because it bloats him and he wants to look decent at our wedding and (b) he knows it’s better for ttc.
This weekend has been a heavy one for him though, drinking Friday, Saturday and today. I Must be getting close to ovulation but I really don’t want pissed swimmers trying their luck! Do I just ward him off and tell him it’s his own fault for contaminating himself with copious beer?

I bet the football doesn’t help does it? Could you maybe just ask him to drink on the days England are playing? If this is the issue, maybe just make it as a joke about his swimmers being drunk or something if you can get away with it

Withhold the goods!!! And blame his patriotic swimmers for all the booze
Knowing him he'll be mightily sorry

Thing is, he will probably lay off it til Wednesday after tonight. But I just don’t know how it will actually affect his sperm on a cellular level. Sometime I think I know too much about biology and that’s not good!
Like..... when he makes a fresh batch, will they be As healthy as normal?! he has adhd which he still needs to be medicated for as an adult and I really want to give our babies the best chance of not inheriting that trait. It’s hindered him in so many respects.

Sorry but that is alcoholic levels of drinking... alcohol affects every part of your body and the effects last for up to a week after you stop drinking. It stops men from being able to produce healthy sperm if they regularly drink that much. It's not like a switch where if you drink one day you'll have bad sperm and if you don't drink the next day they'll be fine. Laying off it for a few days will do absolutely nothing to help sperm production. He needs to drastically cut down on the alcohol. Not just for TTC, but for his overall health.

:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock: oh lord!!!!

This world cup is really hindering our chances then ffs :wall2:

I need to find some good hard hinting facts on the internet to shove under my OH's face, so he has a bit of a reality check :wall2:

You're not meant to drink more than 6 pints a week and you're meant to spread that over 3 days. So basically if you have more than 2 drinks a day, more than 3 times a week, your long term health suffers. Binge drinking is way worse. I don't think it's a big deal unless he's regularly drinking more than the recommended amount. Regular alcohol abuse affects your heart, liver, brain, testicles, hormones... everything really. So it's no shock there's a correlation with alcohol abuse and reduced fertility in men.

Keeping to those guidelines and even occasionally drinking more than you should, alcohol won't affect male fertility. Everything in moderation. :)

Side note - I grew up with an alcoholic father and did a degree in nutrition so I am a bit of an expert on this topic. Too many people think it's normal to have 5+ drinks several times a week and then wonder why they're unwell!! I think it's especially important to cut down the drinking if you want to have kids. Children shouldn't have to see their parents drunk.

We dont drink in the week ever really, but with this beautiful weather and the world cup its meant that drinking has gone up on weekends

My OH 'jokes' that his sperm are probably dead anyway due to his younger years  (Hes a geordie, so its to be expected )

We are saving for a house currently so we have both said come the end of summer, thats it, no more socialising to save money, which will then mean alcohol intake will be greatly reduced as we wont drink at home and he does know, for us to conceive the alcohol intake needs to be reduced dramatically.

Thankfully he does know this and actually does care about it - but actions speak louder than words, but all this advice is greatly appreciated - thankfully i am not stupid lol, but sometimes you do need someone to really tell it straight.

Its just been over the football period. Prior to that it’s once or twice a week so I’m not packing him off to AA just yet. I would say he’s more of a binge drinker as opposed to alcoholic levels.

And I don’t mean 10 pints once or twice a week....

I did just assume it was to do with the football, does his current heathy sperm get affected by the current drinking? Obviously you know more about it than me x
