Most of you know, my manager is away along with another full timer so we're running the store short staffed with a new assistant manager who bless him keeps messing things up. This week I've had to come on both my days off to sort it out, my family came round yesterday and commented on how tired I look and you know what this week I really feel exhausted and stressed. Initially my plan was to leave the Friday just gone but my manager asked me to stay to cover holidays - I really can't face another day after today in here. I'm like a zombie and know my body is telling me to rest. Does anyone know what my rights are , can I leave with immediate effect? My mat leave is due to start 3rd Septemeber but I'm taking 5 weeks holiday before then so my leave date is 31st July which is only 2 weeks and I promised myself I would keep going as its only 9 shifts but I am so tired, struggled with the half hour drive to work, I don't feel myself at all I feel generally unwell x x x

I'm sorry you're having it so rough! I was a manager myself so pretty clued up on the rights. If you told them in writing that you would leave last week, and it was never in writing that you would stay longer, then yes you can leave.

If not, you can go mom sick leave and most companies will just kick off mat leave instead of paying you sick pay.

Hope this helps?! X

If you have to go off sick then they will start your maternity pay and it will cancel out your annual leave. My last job let me just tag all my annual leave on end of my maternity leave though so you may be able to get them to agree to that and still go early? X

Can you go to your Dr and ask him/her to sign you off! You need to do whatever your body is telling you! I dont know the maternity rules but a girl at work was telling me she was supposed to go off at 37 week but went off at 35 because she was to exhausted so it can be done! Look after number 1 and your little baby xxx

Thanks everyone - I really didn't want my maternity to start 7 weeks before she's due it seems a lot of time to take but I suppose if they add the 5 weeks holiday on to when I'm due to return that could work.

Today may just be a bad day, moving house wasn't the most stress free time so maybe it's just taking its toll. I'm going to take tomorrow off as one sick day and then I'll only have 7 shifts left, I can do this right???!! X x x

See how you feel... I know that before I left (my job was physically and mentally demanding) I had a really stressful day and the next day was in hospital with reduced movement and a really high BP. Your body is much more susceptible to stress and illness so if you feel at all unwell, just rest! See how tomorrow goes and just veg out, but I'm a huge believer in taking it easy when pregnant! I left work at 32 weeks due to the nature of my job and the hours, and I'm so glad I did! X

I'm in work today running the store and only have one member of staff in but I'm going to take tomorrow off as a sick day and watch films and sleep all day , I'll have 10 days left and 7 shifts after tomorrow, it's a no brainer I have to stay! Makes sense I'll just stop saying yes to doing everything and take my time with customers. I CAN DO THIS :)

You need to do what's best for you you've had it quite stressful at work lately and moving house really takes it out of you when not pregnant. My work will let me start maternity earlier, but not later so maybe you could move yours up just a week and leave a week earlier. Hope you feel better though Danielle look after you and bump xx

Ah glad you've sorted it out haha positive mental attitude. I've got 5 weeks left because I'm too soft and I'm also covering. Need to learn the word no lol x

I'm normally so positive and ready to take on everything but this weekend I feel like a completely different person. Just want to get in to bed but tomorrow's a new day, I haven't got long left just need to change my frame of mind and I'll do it haha x x x

They legally can't start your mat leave early unless you go on sick 4 weeks before your due date, so if you're 33 weeks now then you can have 3 weeks sick leave then start mat leave at 36 weeks xx
