Me and my OH have decided we offically want to start trying for a baby! (which I am over the moon about).

The only problems with this is I suffer with PID (pelvic inflammotary diesase) and because of this I have not have a period since November last year!!

At my last scan I was told that I am not ovulating at the moment. I have been looking into fertility treatment as I'm not convinced that I will ever concieve completely on my own.

I really struggled to come to terms with this when I was first told this as I thought it would never happen... After alot of google searches I have found out that you can have fertility drugs whitch help you ovulate... I was wondering if anyone on here is taking them and I would also like to no the first steps into being able to get this treatment?

Im really sorry for the long winded post but I have never been able to speak to people that have the same sort of problems as me that can give me genuine advice....

I hope to chat soon.

Hiya Kayley :)

I know that you are understandably feeling very overwhelmed at the moment, but you need to try and keep you wits about you and take it one step at a time.

I assume you have been tested for and treated for the possible causes of PID such as STIs?

So what you first need to do is stop ttc. Do not have unprotected sex at all - you must use a condom.

You will not get pregnant while you are not ovulating so having unprotected sex will just risk getting PID again which will delay you even further.

The problem with PID is that you have no idea what damage it has caused so it would seem reasonable to me for your GP to immediately refer you to see a gynocologist to diagnose the physical damage the illness has caused.

There is no point getting you ovulating with medication if your tubes are blocked, for example, and that is very likely if it damaged your ability to ovulate.

Similarly, there is no point referring you for IVF if your uterus is damaged.

You need a laparoscopy to check your tubes and a hysteroscopy to check your uterus.

If they do the laparoscopy and your tubes come back good, then you can start looking into ovulation medications right away, but they should do the hysteroscopy too because otherwise you might just lose any pregnancies you conceive.

So! Next step for you is to go back to your GP and ask for a referral. Assuming you are only 21, then they might make you wait a couple of years away, but please do not risk PID unless you know you are at least ovulating naturally xx
