hi im looking for some advice, my girlfriend is 2 weeks late for her period, she has been having hot flushes since her missed period, and feeling tired all the time, we have taken 4 pregnancy tests and had contradicting results, the first 2 were positive then a negative and then another positive, but all have been feint positive results, any help or advice would be a great help thanks.

Hi Gav, first of all, welcome to the forums :D

Secondly, I'd advise your girlfriend to go and see her GP, taking the tests with her if possible, and requesting a blood test for a more definate result.

Hope that helps.

thanks for your reply, we have booked her into the docs on monday, for a pregnancy test, hopefully well have a clearer picture then. also you might be able to help me on this too, what are HCG levels n how do they affect the outcome of the pregnancy test restults. thanks again for your help.

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is the hormone that you produce when you are pregnant.
It shows up in your urine, and if it is present in your urine, it will produce a positive pregnancy test.

The higher the level of HCG, the stronger the result. HCG levels rise as pregnancy goes on.

Also, different pregnancy tests have different sensitivity to HCG. The doctor and hospital tend to use 50MIU tests, which is medium sensitivity.
Most cheap high street tests are 25MIU, which is more sensitive, and therefore more likely to give you a positive result earlier.
The lower the MIU number, the more sensitive the test. The lowest (best) I've found is 20MIU, and the highest (worst) is 100MIU.

Hope that helped

 Welcome to the forum :)

It sounds like she is pregnant as false positives are pretty rare. HCG varies HUGELY from woman to woman and low levels are fine to sustain a pregnancy so long as they rise at a reasonable rate.

Good luck :)

Welcome to the forum

Hope you get the result you want
