Hi

I just wanted to ask what you think about something if thats ok.

I have been ttc for years. We are on the nhs but whenever i go for appointments it always seems nothing is done and i am told to do more blood tests as the old ones are out of date and come back for a chat. I have been passed from pillar to post and it all just seems a waste of time. SO we decided to go private. We booked an appointment http://www.ivfwales.co.uk/medical_team.asp here. We were so releaved to have made the decision and have an appointment booked for 10th Aoril BUT when i went to my NHS appointment on Tuesday the new consutant offred to do a chromosome test on both of us and refer us to his IVF clininc which is the same clinic where we have booked a private appointment.

Our private appointment is with the clinical director (seen on the link..he can be seen at the bottom of the link A Griffihs) but i dont know what to do now. My first reaction was to cancel the private appointment and go with him as he said we could have a date with him at the clinic is 8 weeks but now i am thinking even if we do wait the extra 4 weeks and go with him then we probably wouldnt want to go on the NHS waiting list anywat.

What to do?? We could wait the extra 4 weeks but we have our hart set on going next month and getting everything started. The chromosone tests wont be back by then but i dont think that will make any real difference as i think hes just trying to stab in the dark at why i dont conceive. My brother had an appointment with the clinical director at the clinic this week and was so impressed. What would you do???

Hi

I dont think I'll be much help but I'd go with what your heart tells you. If it were me and I could afford it I would stay private and it might hurry things up a bit, but that cause I'm so impatient!!

I suppose at the end of the day you will get the same result.

Good luck!

Hi

It depends how much you can afford to spend. Chromosome tests can be expensive, thats without all the other tests you usually have to have done. We were advised by a private clinic to stick with the NHS for all our tests and then come back to them. So thats what we did. And after 2 BFN's with IVF so far i'm glad that we saved a bit of money!! What tests have they done on you and OH so far? Just blood tests?

I know how it feels waiting all the time for appointments with the NHS, it can feel like forever. I was also very impatient......and still am! Whats the IVF waiting list like in your area?

Hi, well i live in spain and i can go to the doctors and then on a waiting list also but im not bothering. While i lived in the UK and i was waiting for an op they lost the notes, continually cancelled my appointments leaving me upset and disappointed. Finally after a year and a half i had the op vowing next time to go private, which is what im doing. OK it costs money but cutting out the waiting time and messing around more than compensates i think. I hope this helps. x

Thanks. We have decided to go private as we have been ttc for so long i just cant wait any longer!!!
