We are going to be moving in mid-January and I wondered if any of you had any good advice on how to cope. Q will be 16months old by then. We don't have any family nearby who can help to look after him (nearest is 300miles away) and I'm starting to dread the prospect.

We're moving 8 days before xmas with a 3 yr old and a 5 month old, so any help I'm listening too :rotfl:

Where you off too?

we moved last month all i can advice is dont try and do it yourself hire removals men with a huge van may cost a little more but so much easier as 1 of you can take turns in watching the baby, oh and if possible and you drive put important baby bits in 1 car nappies, food, dummies ect so you got it all to hand and can be the 1st thing unpacked also the cot make sure thats last thing on 1st things off so they can sleep if needs be :)
good luck
xx

I'll baby my 2 lil pals for you!!

Infact, I could babysit both yours Angela and Clydsdalecloppers LO as you are both just up the road from me!

I'm off up between Huntly and Keith - lovely house with lots of land for the horse. I can't wait to get there - just dreading the process.

I'd agree that doing it professionally is a good idea. We did it for the first time, moved when LO was 6 months and it was a lot easier. The worst bit was trying to pack and being surrounded by boxes!

Label each box and when you un-load the van put that box in that room in the new house.

Good luck, hope it goes smoothly.

We are certainly getting professionals in to do the move - I'm just trying to convince DH that they should also do all of the packing :D

My main worry is once we are there it always takes weeks to unpack and I'm sure the little monster (I'm mean darling of course) will be in all the boxes and getting at stuff he isn't normally allowed near.

We moved when our LO was 2 weeks old! And it was a hell :wall:

We had a removal company to pack the things, then my DH unpacked most while I and LO stayed overnight with his dad. (how on earth he managed it, I dont know!)

I would reccomend to have someone unpack all the stuff as well.

Also, a good idea is to book a room in a hotel nearby. Just in case something goes wrong (like when my DH came to a new house a day before us he had problems switching heating on).

Also, just in case ring a few removal companies as a back up. Basically, we had to move on Wednesday, removal company was supposed to come on Monday at 9 am to start packing (we have awful lot of stuff). So, 9 am-nothing, 10-nothing, trying to ring-phones noone answers. At 12 pm I started ringing other emoval companies (the original one still didnt arrive and office phone and mobiles are turned off). Thanks god I managed to get us another removal company, which managed to arrive by 3 pm same day, but it ment, that me 2 weeks after the c-section had to help packingup till 8pm wednesday evening. Anyways, wont go into details-it was pure hell.
So, just make sure you have some sort of back up (in our case, if we wouldnt have moved at agreed date we would have to pay penalty to 2 othwer sides (our byier and people we were buying from)

Hope you will have a more pleasant experience

Thanks. The hotel idea is very attractive :D I could leave DH to unpack and I'd also get more room in the bed. Mind you - men and unpacking  maybe not such a good idea :rotfl:
