Well last night my dad checked out car out and basically its falling apart. The underneath is really low and scrapes on the floor and its starting to play up when we use it. Weve seen a few second hand cars for less than £2,000 but DH said it would be a bad idea to buy one right now. Where both working now and we could trade our old car in now while its still "working".
Im just really worried that it'll just break down one day and we wont have a car and we'll end up spending another £300 on a bag of crap when we could have spent £2,000ish and got a car that would last us a while.
The other isue is that we dont pay our insurance on our car because its classed as a company car (Father in laws company) so he pays it. If we got another car we would have to pay for it ourselves.
At the moment where trying to pay a £2,000(ish) loan off and buy a house so DH doesnt want more debt on top of that.

But i still think in the long run buying a better car now would be a better option. Am i being stupid?

i think a newer car would be more reliable,

as for insurance, shop around there are some deals out there, dont jump in with the first quote, how old are you jenna, that makes a difference on price as well, but get driving and gain no claims, soon brings the price down.. and insurance is paid monthly if you want to , u only have to pay a deposit..

i would be lost without my car, its my pride and joy

I wouldnt be on the insurance, only DH who will be 25 when we get it (hopefully), we looked it up last night on the insurance company his family use and it said we would have to pay a £200 deposit and then £60 a month which i didnt think was bad.
I love the car to bits and would hate to use it will it died then just scrapp it, would get a better deal if we traded it in.

i can se your point, but buying a newer car doesnt neccessarily mean it wont break down, especially in the 2k price bracket

i sold an immaculate 1990 Ford RSTurbo for £2300 and bought my Escort GTi for a mere £950, with fsh, extremely low miles and 2 owners....

you can get a decent car for 1k these days if u look about....

our other car is 1988 E reg Sierra Cosworth and tbh its in better nick than any of the cars in our full street 8)

i knew this would happen. was driving home yesterday and there was a massive bang and the car stopped in the middle of the road. The car was making an awful noise and we had to crawl home with the hazzards on!! DH is looking for a ford focus, we might be getting one before our holidays in June. :wall: I love my car to death and hate to see it broken.

£60 a month is cheap lol i pay £110 a month for my car insurance!! :shakehead:

my partner was paying 51 a month on his insurance and he just changed to direct line from norwich union and its now 26 a month almost £300 cheaper i was shocked how much less we could get it he had 4 years no claims :D

Shopping around is a good idea. Try www.cofused.com they are really good aas they look at different companies and give you the cheapest. I don't work for them but they managed to save me nearly £600 a year on our cars so full of praise for them!

www.confused.com are great :D

I've saved £160 a year on my home insurance using them plus £90 a year on my car insurance.

My son's just starting out with his first car. Confused helped me find him insurance for £400 less than his first quote!

You can save so much money by shopping around. (Make sure you read all the terms of the policy though!)
