Hi guy

Just a daft question before I start on my burning issues....anyone else had a thing for cheese during their pregnancy. I have loved it, I buy organic and have lived on it from toast to baked tatties, it is my ultimate nausea cure, yoghurts are the same and glasses of milk. My teeth have been pretty good too, no bleeding gums or proper fillings requried..hmmm

Secondly, I am still in need of a rant like many of you guys. Why does pregnancy blow up so much stuff with in-laws. Ok here we go.

My mother-in-law has two dogs, they are pretty dirty dogs. Anyhow she lets them poo in my garden, my poor hubby was digging up the garden to make a shed and he got covered in it, there was loads all in one area which I had not noticed. It is so disrpecful yet OH won't ask her to pick it up as he said she is an old lady, he is young and fit and she can't bend down to do it!!! He would rather do it himself but he doesn't, what kind of garden is that for a little one to play in !!!!! (I counted 15 poo's in her garden the other day by the way!!)

Secondly, smoking.......my sister-in-law thinks it is bad I let me MIL smoke in my kitchen when I am pregnant, to be honest I open the window and it stops her moaning and it seemed a comprimise. Anyway, hubby has made it clear when bub is born she is smoking in the garden and she has to wash her hands after. She is NOT happy, she rolled her eyes...we are never going to be able to take the baby to their house because I don't think she will be able to smoke outside seeing it is her house.

phew feels better getting all that out. Why can't life be easy and straightforward eh...if it wasn't for this smoking and hygiene stuff we would get on brilliantly.

xx

The title to your thread made me giggle.

Yep I have had a big thing for cheese this pregnancy - I did when I was having George too. But I have always been a massive cheese eater anyway. MMM I'm gonna have cheese on toast for lunch now :D

As for the MIL thing I wouldn't let my LO play in the garden if it is full of dog poo.
And as for smoking my in laws came here last week and were literally chain smoking in my kitchen they soon got the message though when I opened the conservatory doors up (to let some air in!) then the penny dropped that I was pregnant. My OH smokes but he will go outside to do it.

I've gone off cheese this pregnancy, even pizza is not as appealing as usual!

I would put your foot down with OH and mother-in-law. Tell your OH either one of them picks up the poo, or the dog is not welcome in your house or garden. If MIL doesn't like that she can stay in her own house.
I don't think it's unreasonable for her to pick the poo up when she comes to visit you. Why should your garden get messed up when you haven't even got a dog. She must be capable of picking it up, what does she do when she takes it for walks?
If your OH wants to pick it up thats up to him, but he must make sure he does it immediately after she's gone.
Dog poo can cause kids to go blind, I don't think you're being unreasonable.

My parents live in Devon and have two jack russell terriers who they treat like kids, and won't leave the house at the same time as they don't like the dogs being left alone.
I've said to them several times they are welcome to come and stay with me, but there is no way I can have the dogs in my house asI have a cat. If they want to visit they'll have to either put the dogs in kennels or stay in self catering accommodation which allows pets.
They haven't been to visit us in the 18 months we've lived here, but if they value their dogs more than seeing their grandson thats their problem. We've made the effort to see them twice in that time.

As for the smoking, I wouldn't let people even smoke in my kitchen, the smoke discolours the paint after a while. I'm an ex-smoker though so it really annoys me watching people smoke  Again I'd tell them to smoke outside or not come to my house.

Luckily none of OH's family who live round here smoke, and very few of our friends do, the one's that do will stand at the backdoor and do it.

I hope you can get all this stuff with your in-laws sorted. I've found I've had a lot less patience with the in-laws and even my own family since being pregnant!

I've loved cheese throughout this pregnancy, it's so yummy :)

With regards to the in-laws, that would really get on my nerves too hun, I wouldn't let LO play in a garden full of dog mess.

Have some of these

CHEESE is my number one food normally.

However, I couldn't even bear to touch the stuff until I was about 20 weeks through this pregnancy, it was so weird.

I'm back on it now but nowhere near as keen as I used to be.

The title made me laugh A LOT! Lol.

Cheese is very yummy. I eat a lot of it, lol, mmm, and i can't wait until i can have brie again! Woooo.
Parmesan is one of my faves - on bolognese, yum

With regards to the in-laws, there is no way they should leave dog poop in your garden, baby or no baby! It should be cleared up immediately - yuck!!

With the smoking thing you'll just have to keep putting your foot down!

    sorry it's tough on you, xxxx

OMG cheese! Love it. I love it even more with a big class of Rioja (not long now!!! :cheer: )

As for smoking and dogs - urgh :puke: My two pet hates (sorry to dog owners - no malice meant, I just don't like them) There is no way I would be letting the dogs in my house or garden, let alone poo in my garden. Can she not leave them at home? I don't like the idea of boisterous dogs near babies either, we have already decided not to take our little one to our friends house because their dog is too excitable.

My father smokes a lot. When he visits us (once a year) he usually smokes in the conservatory (we never go in there and we close the doors to the rest of the house) - however, we have been cleaning out our conservatory to become a play/storage space for baby things, so he is going to have to smoke outdoors.
It is trickier when we go to my parents house (about twice a year), my father smokes in the kitchen (even with my 8 month old niece there). We are not sure how to tackle it. We are going to tell them we will be sleeping in a hotel though as I don't want my baby to sleep in a house where someone smokes.

Pregnancy and new babies definitely cause issues with families- but I think parents and in-laws should be more understanding. There is enough in the media about the dangers of smoking and babies for them to realise the danger they are putting their grandchildren in.

Im a cheese lover too. :D

I have a dog and wouldnt dream of leaving the poo lying around i think if your OH doesnt want her to pick it up then he should do it straight away before its forgotton about. Im lucky as my dog is walked so much he very rarely poos in my garden he usually does it when hes out (which we always pick up) so dont have this problem.

As for the smoking its one thing to have a no smoking zone in your own house but when it someone elses house its harder to get them to go outside but i think there is no other way round it than being upfront and saying you will not have the baby around the smoke.

i cant believe the poo and she doesnt clear it up!! Thats just wrong. In a year -18 months your LO will be wanting to run around out there, she needs to sort out the dog muck!!!

And the smoking thing....Ive had to be very strict about it. I smoked until i got my BFP, now i hate it. I never smoked in the house because OH has never been a smoker, so other people always go outside, but my parents smoked like chimneys in their house and we had to phone about 4 /5 hours in advance if i wanted to go round because i didnt want beth in a smokey room.

Ive moaned so much about it (as an ex smoker, im a right pain in the backside  ) that my mums now given up and is going to no smoking sessions once a week, my brothers are giving up, and my dads cut down loads and will only smoke outside now so we can go and visit when we want :cheer: Put your foot doown! I did , and now all my family are getting healthy, lol. (i also told them they wouldnt be able to hold the baby for a few hours after a fag, so that was another incentive!)
