I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I really fancy a cold beer or two as its a red hot day, i'm gonna sit on the garden reading etc and just wondered if you think its ok?

Each to there own...

But personally... ive been t total for over 2 years now...

Its just not worth the risk.
Look at it from this way, would you put a couple of drops of wine in an iv to ur unborn? or would you put a few drops in a sippy cup for ur bubs?

Think not?

T Total all the way :)

i dont drink much anyway but i never had a drop while i was pregnant not worth it

Different studies say different things, and the same goes for cultures. Some say it's ok to have a glass of wine while pregnant, others say no alcohol at all. When I was pregnant, I decided not to take any chances so the moment I found out, I was a tea totaller. This time around, I'm not taking any risks and haven't had any alcohol since 30 April (did the BD on 2, 4 and 5 May  ). Is there anything else you could drink to quench your thirst?

I got absolutely wrecked at my Xmas do when I was 6 weeks pregnant (I didn't know I was pregnant) and had an ice cold shandy (1/2 pint) with LOTS of lemonade last weekend :D

(I had a white wine spritzer - I should really call it a glass of lemonade with a drop of wine really as it was SO watered down! )

This subject will always cause a debate as it's a really delicate subject so you will get lotas of varied responses to help you make your decision - I personally wouldn't drink a pint of beer, maybe half a pint of shandy? xx

I'm usually a big drinker but haven't touched a drop since I found out I was pg.

I think it's better to just not take the risk. Alcohol is toxic and it's not known exactly how much you have to drink for it to affect the baby so IMO I would just not take the risk.

I had two bottles of San Miguel (sp) yesterday!

I didn;t drink when I first found out I was pregnant, although, a bit like Danni, I got absolutly smashed when was about 6 weeks, but I didn;t know at the time.

I'm not normally a heavy drinker anyway, but have been craving lager like noones business and I caved in yesterday.

I think it's each to their own really, I certainly wouldn;t advise getting drunk, but I don;t think there is anything wrong with the occasional glass of wine / larger. Just make sure you line your stomach before hand.

I never drank while PG. But years ago they used to recommend drinking Guiness for the iron didn't they?

I don't think one will harm the bubs TBH. But I never wouldn't risk it.

the new rules are to not touch a drop while pregnant. but my mum drank A PINT of guiness EVERY DAY while pregnant with me and my younger sister as it was believed to be good for her (iron content i think?) it didnt do us any harm! i never drank while pregnant but until i found out at 6 weeks i was taking cocaine and amphetamines regularly (i quit when i got BFP of course) and my little girl is perfect in every way :D (im not endorsing drug-taking in pregnancy btw!)

I'd say stick to one but wait until after the first trimester as this is the most crucial time for baby's development.

From around 13/14 weeks my weekly treat has been one small glass of red wine and I made the decision to have that treat based on the information I have. But each to their own, we all know alcohol in medium to large volumes can affect baby x

I did drink when I was having my kids but only 3 units a week max. I'm quite a big drinker so I did miss it so if I really fancied a drink I would measure my self a glass of wine or larger and put a little bit of it in a glass with soda or lemonade that way I would make 1 unit of alcohol last about 4 drinks and I felt like I was having a drink more.

Snap!! It was advised then for the iron, and me and my brother are ok! But then my mum says they were never advised to take folic acid either. Im sure in twenty years time, something we are doing now that we think is good will be banned!!

Id say the odd one is ok, its more the heavy drinking that lead to fetal alcohol syndrome..... and theres always alchohol free beer (although I tried some other day and :puke: )

Personally, no. However, before I knew I was pregnant (it was literally the first week) I got MASHED and really stoned too  which is actually extremely unusual for me. I've been feeling bad about it ever since. Other than that I had a tiny sip of wine from my husband's glass just to taste it (it was a really nice wine in a restaurant and we don't often eat out!) and a little white wine when I put it in pasta sauce (but I boil off most of the alcohol and it's about 1/3 of a glass anyway).

I undersatnd the most risk from fetail alcohol syndrome is early on when all the cells are dividing and the building blocks are being layed down for later on. First tri is jsut to risky i think.

I have voted no. So many different reports published regarding how much you can or cant drink in pregnancy so i think its safer to be T total.

I havent had any alcohol since getting pregnant and dont plan to drink any until i have finished breastfeeding my LO.

I have so missed a nice cool beer at many times along the way and my bro bought me a huge bottle of Archers for my birthday but i dont want my daughter to get any in her system from my breastmilk it has been placed at the back of my cupboard till i have finished breastfeeding.

I voted no too!
I just cant drink a drop when Im pregnant! I just cant see the point of risking something so precious for 1-2 drinks?
Before I found out I was pregnant with my second son, I drank a fair few times! I didnt find out I was pg till I was 4 months and I felt so guilty about it!
Fetal alcohol syndrome is something so avoidable! They dont know how much alcohol causes damage or when it may occure so its safer to just avoid it completely!

I voted no.

It's just not worth the risk.

Maybe you could have a non alcoholic one?????? Not quite the same I know. x

I voted No, but then its bad I stuff my face with crap food on a weekly basis, so who am I to judge?! It's your body and baby and only you have the choice to make, do what you feel is correct

I enjoyed the odd glass of wine when pregnant and have never regretted my decision.
