Hi everyone

I'm new here and have seen a few posts reference this but wondered what the reasons were given for this to be normal in pregnancy.

I was 9 weeks yesterday and in the morning when I went to the toilet only when I wiped was brown discharge, I panicked and must have visited the toilet 10 x more than normal ! By the end of my working day there was a mere smudge and nothing today.. I spoke with my midwife who referred me to the early pregnancy unit who want to scan me Monday as I had mild period pains too and have previously suffered two miscarriages (immediate red bleeding and completely different) however it doesn't stop me from worrying that something is wrong as it is pretty alarming when I'm the furthest I've got in a pregnancy and had good symptoms ie feeling sick and sore breasts etc. I guess I just need a bit of reassurance as someone commented on a post of a different app saying I should get to a&e immediately !

Any experience and advice would be welcome!

I haven't personally experienced this, but know others have had bleeding and gone on to have perfectly, healthy babies. Hopefully everything is perfectly fine with your little one too, keep us updated on Monday please. x

Thanks for your reply. Many have said it's 'normal as long as it isn't accompanied with bad pain or a lot of red bleeding etc' I just wondered if people could give the reasons their doctor or midwife said it was normal..

I will definitely keep you updated on Monday - super nervous !

My midwife said it could be bits from an old period, also when the baby nestled into the lining, that can also cause the brown discharge. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now, I’m not worried anymore, my friends have said they’ve had it throughout all pregnancy. There’s a lot going on down there, lots of stretching and movement. There’s lots of blood vessels too and this can cause the brown discharge. My midwife said it is old blood. I had an early scan today I thought I was 7 weeks but baby measured at 6+2 but there was a lovely heartbeat :-) try not to worry unless you have severe cramps and red blood.
I’ve also had period style cramps but again, all normal x

I'm sorry, I forgot to update. I went to the early pregnancy unit and had my scan - I thought we were 9 weeks 3 days but they said measuring at 9 weeks 1 day so I'm happy with that. She also said no sign of bleeding and a healthy baby with good heartbeat in there ! Yay! She said unsure of reason for bleeding/old blood as it had thankfully stopped.. I go back on 3rd August for my proper scan :)

Brilliant news, at least you can relax a bit now! x
