Hi ladies,

So my little lad was 7 weeks on Monday and I'm extremely lucky that his a great sleeper, I start his bedtime routine at about half 7 and his asleep by 8, he settles great 99% of the time and falls asleep straight away. He started off sleeping until about 1 then it stretched to 2ish then 3ish and for the last few days has been going right through until 6ish, I then give him a little milk and he falls back to sleep until his wake up time of 7.30-8.
he does wake up a couple times during the night and toss' and turns quietly for a minute but then puts himself back to sleep but I just wondering whether him sleeping for that length of time with no milk is ok at his age? He never wakes up crying and if he did I obviously would feed him but anytime I have decided to see if his hungry he never drinks much so I don't his overly bothered and just wants to sleep!

Hi JulyBug

Is he putting on weight? If so, I wouldn't be at all concerned. Apparently babies need 150-200ml of milk multiplied by their weight in kg. If he's managing that everyday then he obviously just loves his sleep and I'd leave him to it. Some babies seem to really tank up during the day and sleep through at night.

Hi Rachel,

Yes at his last 'weigh in' over a week ago he was 11lb 4 and the HV said his growing perfectly.. he does 4-5oz every 3 hours so I'm sure his getting enough milk during the day?

Then I really wouldn't worry at all. Sounds like he's getting all his milk in during the day so that he can sleep at night. The only time I'd worry was if he wasn't putting on weight and that definitely doesn't sound like a problem here :) I'd just enjoy the sleep!

If he's gaining weight then enjoy it! My girl slept through until 8am from 6 weeks old. I'd give her a dream feed at 10:30pm.

Hi Kimi, we're currently on a 3hr routine, first feed at 8 then 11, 2, 5 & 8pm, his usually awake about 40-60minutes after each feed then will have a nap.. except the 8pm feed where I put him straight to bed. I always make sure his feeding within half hour of each of those times to ensure his getting enough during the day. I'm not too fussy about his daytime naps, I just let him sleep when he wants but he seems to have his own little nap routine like I've said above.

Celene, I'm definitely greatful and enjoying it! Although my body clock is still waking me up at 1-2am!! I used to do a dream feed too at about 10 but he still woke up at the same time and I didn't want to have to deal with weaning him off it so I decided to drop it, since I did he has slept better and for longer! x
