4,5 months old arching his back during sleep

My son started arching his back 3weeks ago (maybe 1 months ) during sleep and he would do it every night now . I have been to gp , he is on cows milk allergy formula for quite a while and on Ranitidine for silent reflux , he wasn’t concerned as my son put a good weight on , never bring milk back or refusing a feed and he never vomited.

I am so heartbroken to see him arching his back all night , he moves so much I barelly sleep . Litteraly I am not sleeping but keeping an eye on him . He won’t wake up but he doesn’t look much confortable either while arching .

Anyone else does this or any advices ? I am so worried ..

My little one did this too, he had bad reflux and was really windy. Was rumbling and stretching all night to get the wind up. I wouldn't worry about it if he isn't crying and waking up

Thanks for replying , he is very windy indeed , he arches and moan until he pass a wind . On Monday I have another appt with the doctor and I will discuss about different medicine as I don’ t seem to find it good and his tummy is gurgling all the time along with the arching . Hate to give him medicine though , hope he will grow out of it soon ..

My son was given gaviscon which really helped and I changed his formula from aptamil to hipp which made a massive difference xx

My little one is 2 months old and had the same issues.
I can't count how many times I have changed his milk until I came across hipp organic first infant milk . This is godsend! He is on no medication and is a different baby altogether.
No more sickness, no more cramps!

Please just try it and see how your baby takes to it but give it a few days to take effect.

Do you still give your baby gaviscon?
I've found that with the hipp it's not needed.

My boy is 19 months now and stopped the gaviscon when he went onto solids and cow's milk. Just don't think formula worked well for him at all. Was a completely different baby when he was weaning into real good xx

Our second suffered from wind and reflux. I read something about a study that showed plain water sometimes workes as well as the medication. I tried it with him and it worked well.

I agree with Bunny - cooled boiled water, before every feed and if they get upset with wind - it's very soothing for them to suck and it's helping keep their bowels regular which helps with wind and their tummy.

My son was on Gaviscon but didn’t do any good to him . He is on Nutramigen and Ranitidine at the moment. I had a week of Alfamino along with omneprazole prescriebed by ped ( trial..) but he got so much worse, no chance I could make him to take the meds and we would spit up all the time so back on Nutramigen now . I do feel terrible to change his formula and meds but he is now 5 months and one week and seems to getting a little better (fingers crossed) . Wondering now if he would be better on Hipp and if I should give it a go . When he was 3 weeks old he has been diagnosed with cows milk allergy and had been on prescription till now . I asked the doctor if we could put him on a normal one just to see if he is still allergic but he said to carry on with this one .

I would be extremely wary of giving babies extra water when they're not dehydrated. Over dosing on water is extrememly dangerous, can be lethal, and not advice I would follow.

Having had two reflux babies, sadly wind is an issue with them. Which bottles are you using? Have you tried others? What size teats are you using? Have you tried moving up or down a teat? All of this can make a difference in a reflux baby. Have you also had him checked for tongue tie with a tongue tie practitioner?

Put the top of his bed at an angle so his head is higher than his feet, this will stop the stomach acid going up into his throat.

Talk to your GP about lansoprazole, it seems to be less unpleasant than omeprazole. If you've tried the tablet form of omeprazole, try the liquid suspension, or vice versa.

Reflux is always a symptom of something else, so it's important to identify and manage the cause to then manage the reflux.

Good point about overdosing on water. Just to clarify when I say I gave water I started with a couple table spoons worth. It is to use as a medication, not as a replacement for milk. I was wary at first because I was totally against giving water to my first. But when my second had colic I figured I rather give a spoon of water than a spoon of medicine and it worked wonders for my second.
