Hi All,

After tracking my cycles since coming off the pill last October, my average cycle is 36 days.

Does anyone has any advice or tips from their own experience with long cycles? Or has anyone managed to conceive having long cycles?

Its only been since January that I have took more interest in TTC, prior to this I was quite happy waiting to 'see what happens'!

I have just ordered OPKS and a thermometer to see if I can track my ovulation but just have the concern about having a long cycle :-(.

Thanks

Your cycles are well within the normal range, so try not to worry.

I have really erratic cycles that vary wildly and I've conceived naturally twice (once after ovulating on CD69 and once after ovulation on day 79). I did mc both but that was unrelated to ovulation day. I then went on clomid and even on that my cycles were between 31-37 days and the fertility clinic were happy with that.

The only issue I would mention with having slightly longer than a 28 day cycle is if you go for what they commonly call day 21 blood tests you need to go 8 days after ovulation, not on CD21, otherwise your results won't be accurate. Doing temping/opks will give you an idea of when your fertile window is, as it is most likely a few days later on than ladies with a 28 day cycle, so if you are concentrating on dtd around CD14 you will most likely be doing it too early.

Thank you Snowbee,

I feel a bit more relived now knowing that 35/36 days are fairly 'normal'.

Last month I think I mistook ovulation pain for conception pain so I do believe I am ovulating a little later than I am guessing. The OPKs and temperatures should hopefully tell me more.

Mind you we DTD almost every other day past what I thought was ovulation (CD 23 onwards) so you never know - my AF hasn't arrived yet!

I shouldnn't matter...you will just ovulate later. The main think is to check when you ovulate. If you do BBT you can check that your luteal phase is the right length. Both things being ok, you're good to go! x
