Hi all,

I need help! My boy is 2yrs 3mo and my daughter is 7 months. My first has just started dropping his daytime nap and I want to cry! Them sleeping together between 1 and 3.30 was what's kept me sane since January! my daughter has terrible reflux and is so much worse since weaning.

Anyway, question is, how do I cope through the day without this nap? Any advice of how to keep him entertained ALL DAY LONG?

I knew this was coming, but I was hoping he'd be one of those toddlers who napped until he was 4!!

Jackson can some days go for naps sometimes not bit if not and I can tell he's tired he usually will lie in bed with a DVD and drop off.

Has he got a tablet or access? I don't hear a peep when Jackson has mine and he's learned so much shapes colours numbers and words on the busy beaver vids.

My toddler had started refusing her day nap but like you I couldn't cope without that! So I tried to see if she would snooze on the sofa and it worked! She just has about an hour bet 1-2 but it coincides with my 9 month old's nap and its bliss! I usually draw the curtains and put Bambi on and before we get to April Showers, she's off!

Otherwise I don't know! Maybe a bit of down time when the baby is napping? Some books/dvd etc? I would feel the same as you!xx

I have a two year old and a three year old and I just keep them both up during the day as I find it really hard to get them to sleep once 8pm comes, but I feel for you especially with a 7 month old, Im sure all you want is for your toddler to sleep so you can get your baby to sleep so you can have a bit of you time during the day, I used to love that!

I have a 4yr old and 2.5yr old. My 4 year old hardly naps but is special needs so has the occasional 30mins every so often. My 2.5yr can last year whole day easily so if we're not going in the car I keep him awake all day. If we have to travel anywhere it's impossible to keep him awake plus he gets carsick so it's safer to let him nap lol. Only trouble is if he naps he takes forever to fall asleep at bedtime so no nap is preferable. It's much easier when nobody naps rather than having one who does and one who doesn't like you do. It just takes a bit o getting used to lol x

I agree, my two take forever to go to bed at night if they sleep during the day and its easier for us to keep them up

Thanks!

I might try the sofa trick, although I'm not sure he'll comply!

I'm going to keep trying with his naps and when he's gone a full week without a nap I'll probably give him some quiet time still or try him on the sofa.

I'm just gutted I'm losing out on my special time!! I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't think it would be this soon :-(

James was a brilliant napper and it's only been very recently he as started to drop his nap.

My 2 never sleep at same time but having a grumpy / tired / clumsy / miserable toddler awake all day long makes for a very long day!! James doesnt even go to bed much earlier if he doesn't nap and he doesn't seem to sleep any differently - he does wake up a bit later in the morning but that is no good for me as I'm up with Bee from early.

Up until recently my two napped for two hours at the same time and it was bliss! I stopped putting Tom up to bed during the day as he wasn't tired come bedtime and although the thought of it filled me with fear, it has worked out just fine! He will go some days with no nap at all, but most days he'll take himself on to the sofa and sleep for a short time, usually half an hour. Although I do miss that two hours of heaven during the day, the two of them are always in bed sleeping for 7.30 every night. Things will just work out!

Oh no. I feel for you all and now consider myself VERY lucky. My son went to a one nap routine very early (10 months old), I was devastated. But, he's now 2.9 and very much on the same routine as when he was 10 months. It's pure and complete routine and best of all it does not make a jot of difference at bedtime and he never questions it. He naps every day from 12-14:15pm. He can cope without a nap for the inevitable days when we can't be home at lunchtime. I hope my daughter follows suit too! Because he has a long nap o do usually manage to have them both asleep at some point. They are also both in bed by 1915.

I think everyone has given some good suggestions. Maybe keep attempting naps - just for another week, if it's still a no go then maybe try to incorporate a 'calm down' time where he can watch TV or do something quiet and still for an hour just so you get a breather.

Good luck :-)
