Hiya, just been for my 20 week scan this morning, everything was going fine, good heartbeat but baby was in a strange postition and the lady couldn't complete her checks so was told to have a walk and eat some chocolate. When we went back in the baby hadn't moved its position and she then tells us that she was concerned because the fluid around the baby was low, and she also had to get her colleague to come in and check the umbillical cord as it has only 2 arteries and not three which could mean problems with the babys bladder and kidneys, and evidently so does low fluid. I was told I would be referred to the labour ward which never happened thank god. But was given an internal to check my cervix wasn't open and losing fluid which it wasn't. I have to go back on Monday and have another scan with the consultant, because the baby was lying funny the checks couldn't be completed.
Has anyone else had this problem, or could offer advice? I'll be going crazy until Monday.

i cant offer any advice but i hope everything is ok. At least if they detect it now , if there is a problem it might be resolveable????

When I went for my 20 week scan (was more 19 weeks) I was told the placenta was low and that I had low fluid. I was told to drink a lot more liquids and they would look at me three weeks later... Again like you I was told that there could be some problems with the kidneys but as the LO was lying in an odd position they would need to see me again.

I went back.. and I have to say I was really nervous where I hadn't been with the 20 week scan. They said everything looked fine... kidneys the lot, but the fluid, although up was still on the low side. So they will give me another scan in November, just to check.

The good thing is you are being seen now, and while I can say nothing that will allay your fears over the weekend, know that it might not be bad news but your LO just being difficult.

Fingers crossed for you hun.. and lots of hugs...

I dont know anything about this at all but sending lots of hugs and prayers that all will be just fine on monday!

Sorry to hear your news.

I don't have any advice for you babes, but try to relax over the next few days and hopefully Monday will come round quick for you. xxx

Thanks everyone for all the hugs and kind words :)

Squig (great to see you back BTW), you have really reassured me. For some reason I forgot to mention that the kidneys and bladder were seen, and appear to be okay, but they can only say for certain once I have the scan on Monday as the baby was lying funny. As for the umbillical cord thing, I have been looking on the net and most babies are born perfectly healthy with this condition. Nobody said anything about the placenta and my Mum asked about drinking more fluids to increase the levels of amniotic fluid and the Midwife said it doesn't make a difference, but I will do anyway, it won't do any harm. The main thing is at the moment I'm not leaking from down below, and I need to go straight back if I start leaking, feel fluey, get abdo pain or backache, blood etc. I'm sure things will be fine on Monday :)

i had to go back too because of the position the baby was in... they were unable to clearly see the heart and the face...

I too was worried (although i pretended i wasnt) but all turned out fine. If baby is in a funny position they wont take any chances and have you go back as often as it takes until they can see everything. When i went back the 2nd time, she hid again and i thought i may have to go a 3rd time but luckily a can of sprite and a mars bar did the trick.

I know you will worry until you have been back but I am sure it will be fine, I looked at it like wll they are doing their job properly..
