do your two year olds still have milk from a bottle?

Alice will be quite happy to have hers from a beaker... Im thinking about getting rid of the bottle completely. She only has one a day (11am ish), and will not entertain another one later in the day. there are days when she will completely refuse milk, so i try and give her loads of cheese or an extra yogurt...

How much milk should she be drinking at 2 years?

I would love to know the answer to this!

Tom still has 2 bottles a day. He happily drinks from a beaker the rest of the day but I still give him his milk in a bottle. He has 6oz in the morning and 6oz before bedtime.

Lxx

PS: Can't believe how grown-up Alice looks in your sig and avatar! Soooo sweet!

Hey Sam, we literally got rid of the bottles just last week.

We just threw them away!! And Zachary doesnt mind at all, he is having milk in his beaker before bed and isnt too bothered about milk in the morning now.

I do top him up on lots of fromage frais to be on the safe side. I know a few children Zac's age that dont drink milk at all, and their HV's have just said to supplement with cheese, yogurt etc.

If you think Alice wont mind, just bin the bottles. Or if you wanna be on the safe side, just pack them away and give the beaker a go. :D

I threw all Haydens bottles away when he was 18 months and he drinks everything out of a beaker/or cup because he dentist told me off for him still having bottles!! he was pset at first but it didnt take him longer than a day to get over it! lol

Dan stopped having a bottle about 3 months ago. He was having one when he got up and one before bed and the rest of the day a cup. I was worried but he didn't seem bothered at all and I packed them away the day after. I wished I had done it sooner but I thought he would put up a fight!

My HV told me he should be having about 500ml a day, but that can also include dairy products.

Also agree with Lucy, Alice is looking so grown up. The picture of her in your sig is adorable!

1 pint a day but this includes dairy products.
Ideally no bottles from 1 year due to high risk of tooth decay - milk has natural sugar in it and it stays on the teeth much longer when given in a bottle rather than a cup.
This is much easier said than done!! If your daughter will happily give them up then I'd say go for it - you're very lucky as most people have a battle on their hands!

Stephen had a bottle until he was 3 lol it was a comfort thing till i threw them all out! I dont think its a bad idea myself a 2 year old having a bottle but a health visitor wouldnt like it - you know what there like

i think i will give her till the new year then the bottles are going :)

TBH she has bit through all but 1 of her teats anyway, so it will save me having to buy anymore for her

Thanks for the lovely comments about her picture... she isn't always that angelic!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I got them off their bottles at 12 months! I think the earlier you do it the better really! I start getting them onto cups earlier so by 12 months they are used to them!

Your daughter is gorgeous btw!! :D gorgeous hair! :D

jayde was off bottles by about 13 months but she hardly drinks any milk what so ever she wont drink it to be honest so just has other dairy products

luke still has 2 bttles a day too but some days he can take it or leave it like you say.
i think i will take his bottles away on his 2nd birthday more worried about getting rid of the dreaded dummy!! :wall:

oh god the dummy!!! we are slowly phasing that out... trying to get her only to have one when she goes to bed. they have been removed from all normal places, and just one on the side of the bed. Problem is now, she stands there and goes "dummy... come get it.... bed" then grabs my hand and leads me to where it is stored :wall: :wall: going to have to find a new hiding place

Right, so she hasn't had any bottles today! she flat out refused her milk from the beaker this morning, but TBH she still isn't 100% well so i don't expect her to want milk anyway, Going to offer her beaker again after her bath. Or i might give her a cup and straw, she will drink almost anything from a straw!!

i got charl off ehr bottles at 1... but she had a dummy for comfort.. ted has his boppys... so i just dunno what im gonna do now hes 1..its quite difficult because he hardly eats...i might try milk in his beaker tmro.. see how that goes..

I'd go for a straw hun... and try the milk ice cold. :) Dunno why but Tia much preferred her formula/soya milk (she was lactose intolerant) ice cold rather than warm. Don't ask, its just strange child behaviour.

Lil miss hasn't had bottles since she was 4 months old...I ditched them all just before I went back to work... Took lots and lots of perseverance to get her to drink from a cup/beaker, but she got there in the end. :) Be patient and your LO will get there too, just expect a few strops along the way :) Lil miss has since discovered straws and well now much prefers to drink from a straw. Its dangerous...

Alice hasn't had warm milk from about 12 weeks old  she refused it unless it was from the fridge / water from the tap, sometimes room temp at a push, any hotter and she wouldn't take it. About the only thing she will sometimes have warm is a hot chocolate if i have one with her of an evening. im not complaining though. It was lovely when we sussed out we didn't have to warm bottles up for her! esp first thing in the morning

The only issue i have with straws is that OH very helpfuly showed her how to blow into them to make bubbles

Well its been how many days now with no bottle :D :cheer:

she did go off food and milk for a few days anyway when she wasn't well, but she hasn't wanted a bottle. She has been drinking milk from a christmas mug using a straw!!

Seems to be going well. Im hoping that when Lewis arrives she doesn't want to take a step back and be a baby again
