Hello all!

After 10 months of TTC, I got my first ever BFP on Thursday (then Friday and Saturday just to be sure!).

I know it's all very early days, and anything can happen in the next 36 weeks, I'm scared, excited and daunted all at the time!

Are there any other first timers out there? Would be great to hear how you are getting on!

Hi this is my first and i'm 8 weeks 2 days. I had an early scan at 7 and half weeks as I had pains but we saw a heart beat and I cried. I still don't quite believe it as I have little symptoms. My next scan will be 2nd December but that's so long away I'm hoping I can wait till 10 weeks then go private. I'm so worried something will go wrong.
Congrats by the way and I hope it goes ok for you. Xx

Congrats pinball :-) my first too, and apparently I'm 'old' at 34 lol I'm about the same time along as you blueclass, 8 weeks today. Keep worrying on and off about every little twinge! Symptoms have been mainly just overwhelming tiredness so far, but been off food and sicky this week :s Seeing mw tomorrow for the first time. Hope you guys are doing ok x

Hi Blueclass and Yorkslass,

Congratulations to you both!

Blueclass I am so glad your scan was ok, it must have been terrifying! The 2nd of December does seem ages away :( hopefully it will fly by for you.

Yorkslass I too am 'old' at 35 ! i hope your appointment tomorrow goes well - please let us know how you get on :)

I can relate to the tiredness, get a few period pain twinges every now and then, but am petrified of feeling sick, as I just can't function when I do!

It's my first one, too, just made it to week 12...I'm 30, and looking at everyone else here, I feel old for having the first. But then I feel old all the time anyway. ;)

Congrats everyone! :)

Hi. I'm 10w and 2d with my first. It's 5 weeks since my BFP and I still can't really believe it. I am so desperate for that first scan just so I can have a picture of what is inside me. The book says the little life inside me is about an inch and a half long now. How can it be that big, have a beating heart and recognisable facial features, without more signs that it is in there?!

I guess I shouldn't complain at the relative lack of symptoms, but it kind of supports that little voice in my head telling me I can't possibly be pregnant and the whole thing is a cruel trick. The only real symptom I have is that I am knackered ALL the darn time. 90 minute nap this afternoon, and its 9pm now and I'm already thinking bed time. Yet I'll sleep for an hour or two then I'll be awake again staring at the ceiling unable to sleep. Sigh. I think this baby is trying to turn me nocturnal. That and it has decided that I'm no longer allowed to eat sausages. The smell of them cooking puts me off the whole idea of food now.

To the others first-timers in their 30s.... I'm 31, and I feel old too. Especially when I see my 26 year old sister-in-law chasing after her 2 year old whilst 7 months pregnant with the next one.

Hi Mrs Z and sammielou,

Congratulations to you both!

At 35 I now feel super old! Lol

How was ur scan? Mine is the 12th so il be around 10 weeks then, wish it would be sooner. It still does not seem that real to me yet. I di see a heart beat at 7 weeks but I still can't quite believe it and still worry everytime I get a ache or pain. I just want to get to 12 weeks and have my next scan and know it's ok. I am thinking I may go private at 10 weeks simply because I worry. It's nice to have someone so close to my due date we can compare as we go along. Xx

Hi ladies

I am 10 weeks and this is my first too and I am 36!! So def classed as an older mum to be! It has taken us over 3 years to be in this position so I did not choose to be 36! Anyway I am young at heart, fit and healthy so what does it matter!

I have a private scan booked for Saturday because I just worry worry worry... Saw my midwife today and she told me to just enjoy it!! Stop looking for problems and enjoy it because it goes quick! I know she is right and I will try! X

This is my first too. I'm 34 and was initially worried about being perceived as an "older" first-time mum, but like Loubalouba I feel young and am healthy, so what does it matter! Due to life circumstances (bereavement and family illness) it wouldn't have been the right time for us to try seriously any earlier than we did.

Saw mw yesterday and she said I was very chilled out and told her student 'it's not always as straightforward as this' lol maybe because I just couldn't think of any questions while I was in there (of course, now I can think of loads!). Apparently I'm low risk, which is great :-) I came away with a folder of info and I think I need to start thinking about how I want to do the birth! That's waaaaay off in the future, surely ;-) hehe
Congrats all you other 1st timers - how you all getting along? How'd you find your 1st mw visit?

Yorkslass, I was the same at my appointment, couldn't really think of anything to ask, but once I walked out of that door...oh well. My midwife was lovely anyway, and looking forward to seeing her again at the end of this month.

Do you have any ideas about the kind of birth you'd like? Think for us it'll just be at the hospital. As curious as I'd be about a home birth, I think the first one is probably not the best time...

My mw was lovely too and her student :-) As for the birth, I've become quite keen on the idea of a pool and to be able to be quite active. I know I don't want too much interference and drugs at least. Assuming I remain low risk, up until yesterday I was sure I'd just go to hospital, being my first experience of it, but I'm suddenly tempted by a home birth. This may be some temporary madness that has set in though...
Would you prefer the pool do you think, mrs z? What are other folk thinking?

I'm definitely thinking of giving birth in the pool. Iv heard it's really relaxing and helps. However I am a wimp when it comes to pain and could see myself asking for drugs but I'd like not to if possible. X

Oh, I can relate to that...I've never really had to take any strong medication, and the thought of taking drugs for pain relief during delivery freaks me out a little. As does birth in general.

Haven't really thought about options like a pool...I think I'd be happy just being able to move around as I please. Not sure why, but contemplating it now, I don't find the thought of water very appealing. Also don't know what options my hospital is offering - it's a little throwback to the 80s in general, so not expecting too many fancy options there. But we'll see. Let me know if you decide to go with the home birth...that's exciting! Must be nice to hold your baby for the first time in your own bed. :)

Having a home birth sounds nice but for me personally I know how I am and if I was finding it to difficult ect I'd have a melt down and so being in a hospital or birth centre there are more staff to help and if j need it pain relief. The thought of labour truly scares the life out of me. When I think of it I feel sick and get the sweats lol. Iv also wondered if I was offered a c section would I take it... its not the easy way out as it's a much longer recovery which puts me of plus being awake freaks me out to. Ideally I'd like to o to sleep wake up when it's over, obviously I k ow that's not going to happen. My other half thinks I should talk to someone about my concerns as il drive my self mad. My dad has also said he will be no where near the hospital as I will probably be shouting all sorts. I hope I'm not like this. Xx

Blueclass I am totally with you on the wake me up when it's all over birthing plan!

I think either way, it'd just be nice to move around as we please, wouldn't it? :-) A friend had a pool birth 2 years ago and it seemed to suit her. I'm signed up to the same hospital.
I bet ya now I chicken out of home birth lol - it's a nice idea though... x

Blueclass, wouldn't that be great if we could just wake up feeling great and be handed a baby lol
Maybe have a stork fly in and give it to us!

Was going to mention (now I'm rambling on when I should be working!) one reason I probably wouldn't do home birth is just to have the initial support while still in hospital to go through the feeding and nappy change and all that first time. Will likely do classes before the birth, but it might be trickier on your own newborn! X
