What did you do for your LO's 1st birthday? I've got loads of ideas but I'm not sure what's age appropriate. I don't want to do a party for 2 reasons - we haven't the space for one at home or the funds to hire somewhere. I do want to do something small and special, however. I was thinking something like the zoo where he can see the animals and we can get some nice snaps but I'm not sure if he'll really know what's going on to enjoy it iykwim?

My LO 1st birthday was a Monday. On the Sunday I invited family and close friends round to the house. Made some parry nibbles. Lucky was a nice day so put a few toys and bubble machine in the garden and kids were kept amused for ages. On her actual birthday we went to a local small zoo. Again she loved it. Was amazed by the monkeys! X

We just had family round and I did a buffet and we had cake etc. The kids played together and she had a great time. Then the next day we took her to an indoor adventure playground thing aimed at 0-5 year olds and she had fun playing in the ball pit and on the slides etc. We wanted to save the zoo for when she was a bit more aware of different types of animals etc (which she is now at 18 months) but I can see where you are coming from :) x

I'm just so torn, he's a very nosey child so I think the zoo would be great but a play place would be great too if there was one local that catered to his age. I'm trying to get a list if ideas together and then me and hubby can research and pick something.

We went to the zoo for the day for harpers first birthday and had a few members of family come over in the evening for a bit of a buffet and cake.

We have been regularly taking harper to the zoo since she was about 4 months old and she loves it. She loves animals.

At a year she was able to see the animals and defo enjoyed herself xx

We didn't do a party for the same reasons. Our immediate family is about 25 people so no chance of a 'small do' and I felt hiring somewhere was too expensive for his first.

We ended up going to the farm on the actual day (it was in November though so we didn't stay long) and we did a tea party at my folks on the Sat for my side of the family and Sunday dinner and inlaws for that side of family.

Second birthday we did naff all as we moved the day after and I was 30 weeks pregnant lol.

X

A farm is a great idea but our local farm requires children to be 2+ to do the feeding and whatnot, I think it's to do with little hands grabbing or something which is such a shame cus he would absolutely LOVE it!

You will be surprised how much little ones love the zoo. My baby was a few weeks old his first trip and slept through it lol but has been several times since and he loves looking at the animals. He knows they are in there and he looks for them if you hold him to the fence. He is 8 months. If it's a rainy day maybe an aquarium. The plan for his first birthday was the zoo with the family and a big picnic lunch but we might be going on holiday now so not sure yet xxx
