Ok so I've hit a bit of a dilemma. When my sons 12 week jabs appointment came through the date was right in the middle of our holiday so I rang the doctors and they said to take him on the Thursday after we got back between 10&11am and they'd slot us in. It was a nightmare trying to keep him entertained for that period of time. Now his 16 week jabs appointment had come through for a day when we are supposed to be away again. The only difference is this time we haven't booked and paid for anything as yet. I've told my OH that we'll just have to make the appointment and change the days of our few days away. He's adamant that we just take him on the open day again but I can't bring myself to call the Drs to tell them yet again that we can't make that appointment because we are away again. I feel like I'd be putting time away before my sons health and it makes me feel like a really crappy parent :-(

Am I wrong to feel like this and just call them to rearrange or should I be sticking to the appointment we've been given?

I would keep the appointment. As you say, you've not booked or paid for anything so there is no harm in working round the appointment. I can understand if you had already booked something. Unless you can make an earlier appointment. Whatever you do though, I don't think you'll be putting anything above your child's health. It's not like he's never had his jabs, so you're not neglecting him so please don't think that. I would keep the appointment just for ease - that's my only reason x

I'm sure they're automatically generated, usually you get sent in some new appointment slip if you don't turn up at all and don't phone to cancel and most places have clinic hours where you can just turn up to have it done, even some sure start centres do. You can always phone your HV to see where those clinics are held in your area and ask for the times and dates, ring your doctor to cancel the appointment if you wish and take the information in next time you go back to docs so they can update the records when you get them done elsewhere. Hope that helps x

I don't think rearranging the appointment would make you a bad parent. Everyone needs some time away from the routine so I'd go. Our appointments are always sent out for between 2&4 and when you're taken depends on the order you arrive in. I always go early and have always been within the first 4 or so taken but staff have been late and doctor kept us waiting the first time so I had LO in doctors for over 2hrs-nightmare.

Is there any chance OH could go to app with you? Means one of you could walk around with LO to entertain them instead of having to sit in one spot. You might also find they'll be interested watching all the other people in waiting room by that stage. We had our 16week jabs yday and he was grand even though we had to wait 50mins (and we were first in the queue:() Good luck.

We've reached an agreement that we are going to go away from the Friday and come back Monday morning in time for his appointment on the Monday afternoon. I realise I'm probably being a bit silly by thinking I'm a bad mum for rearranging appointments but I really felt that as we had already rearranged one it would be best to keep this one which we are doing now :-) now to try and make my OH think sensibly about accommodation when we go away as he's so focused on getting a 'nice hotel with a nice breakfast buffet' that I don't think he's thinking about whether they have a cot! (We don't have a travel cot as we don't go away that often)

I don't turn up at all and I don't bother to phone so I really wouldn't worry!
