Bit dissapointed with it really. Was asked if I had any questions and had my blood pressure taken. What a waste of time going really. I also mentioned that I had signed up for NCT classes and was so glad I had when she told me there was 14 couples (28 people, 30 including instructors!!!!!!) at the NHS classes and that everything was group work and questioned my asking about home birth because I might want pain relief stronger than gas and air (I don't if I can help it!)....humm just feel dissapointed with it really. She did listen for Pudding on the doppler but I do that at home daily anyway so no big surprises etc there.

What did everyone else have done at a 16 week check?

at 16 weeks i had to go to the hospital to get my bloods results, that was it i also got given loads of leaflets and stuff, and just had a genral chat no unrine samples or blood pressure taken and i didnt get to lustan to baby either.

Sounds pretty similar to what i had at my antenatal appointment last week, they couldn't understand why one had been booked for me as my health is fine and ive had no problems recently.

All they did was check my BP and i got to listen to the heartbeat which i thought was pretty cool as i could only saw the heart beating at my 13 week scan.

Im due to see the MD early next week for the 16 week thing. All i know is that she asked me to provide her with a urine sample and i think she said that she would listen to the heartbeat!

Who knows maybe it will be a bit of a pointless visit! But it would be nice to hear it again!

Oh yeah I had to do a urine sample too...suppose it was pretty comprehensive then really when compairing mine to everyone elses. I was given blood resuts (all clear but knew that as I had them done a month before getting preg to check all was ok anyway!) no leaflets etc but ok feeling better about it now. Thanks.

Glad it went ok for you Nicola. I didn't have much done at my 16 week check up and, like you, I thought it a bit disappointing. I didn't even get to see the MW and had to have a dippy doctor instead. :(

Will you do the NHS classes as well as the NCT? I must look into those. My OH is keen to do them although I'm not so worried as this is my second baby.

Hey hun, glad everything was fine at your appt. I had mine at 16+6 and all they did was measure my belly, and check baby's hearbeat. Had a lil chat and thats about it really.

Nothing much!

She asked my if I would breastfeed, gave me dates for NHS antenatal classes, blood pressure was taken, I was asked if I felt OK, then she listened to LO heartbeat for a few seconds.

All over in about 5 minutes!

Glad everything went well at your appt Nicola, mine was the same, BP check, urine sample and listen to LO's heartbeat, then just a general are you OK type chat :)

My midwife seemed to think I needed to do the NCT or NHS classes and both were not necessary. She did point out that although the NCT was more in depth and much smaller groups, that they don't cover pain relief and the NHS ones do - I'm hoping for a homebirth thus gas & air only anyway. We shall see. Apparently you get more info on classes nearer the 30 week marker. I've got another 12-14 weeks to go yet!! :bored:

My mw appointment was actualy at 17 weeks. she took my urine sample, took blood, blood pressure (student midwife did it first and forgot to release the valve, my arm nearly dropped off :( ) she weighed me (+ 4kg  ) felt my tummy but didnt listen to babies heartbeat which made me feel gutted but she said it causes panic if the cant find it this time so the powers that be apparently have said to do it at 28 weeks or something. but mine is going to try at 24 weeks

Hi

Out here at every monthly appointment we do urine sample, then get weighed then get blood pressure checked and babies heart beat and our fundal height checked.
Then ask questions ,ask how i am and send me for any tests i need and go over any previous tests.
Katrina

all they did at mine was take lots of blood, a bit of wee, and weigh me!
