Hiya

My LO is 4months old now, and over the last 4/5 weeks i have dropped b.feeds and replaced with formula (many reasons) I am now down to only b/f 1x a day (wake up feed at 7:30am) Has anyone else managed 1 feed a day & their milk still plentyful? I was afraid this wouldn't work....but he seems happy after the feed & i am also able to top him up/comfort/quench his thirst inbetween main feeds when he needs it. Can your milk just suddenly dry up? I don't get that full feeling or leaking anymore, not even a strong let down as i did with 2 or 3 b/f's a day??

Thanks for any help/advice!

UPDATE:
Thank you for replies.... Well LO woke as usual at just before 7am this morning and fed....and fed....and fed??? Didn't feel right....small, quick sucking etc....after 45mins (never feeds for this long) i broke latch and LO rooted for more  So i went down and made a bottle :( ....and guzzled down 6 oz !!

Looks like this is the end of my b/f. Can any bottle feeders tell me how they prepare LO's 1st bottle of the day? At the mo i pre fill the days bottles with 5oz cooled boiled water, then when LO wants a feed, just add remaining 3oz of boiling and add powder. I'm so used to just picking LO out of crib as soon as he stirs/moans in the morn and giving him boob.....he has never had to wait for the kettle to boil!!

I stopped exclusively bf at 5 months and cut it right down to one feed a day. It has worked out well and my milk comes in at the same time each day- just enough for one feed. I must say though over the last few days shes been missing feeds and my milk has dwindelled a bit so my advice is- dont skip feeds, and try to express to keep your milk supply going. :)

For me 1 feed a day didn't work.

I was on 3 breastfeeds a days from about 9 months. Then I switched to one feed a day and my suply just dried up almost completely!

It's like my body was fine as long as it got the demand twice in a 24h period, but just once wasn't enough for my boobs!

You might be different though.

I'm sorry to hear this  I just expressed and I found that when I went back to work and tried to express once a day my supply dropped, I had to express twice a day to keep it up.

If you want milk in a hurry in the morning you could use ready made cartons. We entertain her while mixing the formula. Or you could get up before him to make it.
