i forgot to post this in here!
i went into the hospital on monday monday to get induced, after my waters had broken on sunday morning. when i got there i was ignored for like 2 hours, then they gave me a gel. it did nothing, my cervix was still completely closed 12 hours later. so i had to be put on a drip about 1am (cervix still closed), and monitered constantly through my labour, because of my waters breaking, to make sure zach was ok & his heartbeat didn't drop. i was on the drip for about an hour when my contractions started, she checked me again at about 3am & i'd got to 2cm's dialated. it was starting to hurt quite a bit by then, but i still refused any pain relief, i was so desperate to do it without! instead, i bounced on a birthing ball, it felt so awesome to just rock back & forth on it, if i'd of had a shorter & succesful labour i'm pretty sure that would have gotten me through it. i was on the ball for like, two hours, then i started to struggle to stay on it because each contraction would kind of knock me backwards, so i got back on the bed. the whole time the midwife had been increasing the drip, as i got onto the bed she proper cranked it up & i was finding it difficult to cope.
(i kind of don't remember much from this point, so my OH's reminding me, haha)
apparently i started to zone out, and wasn't talking to anyone, just texting anyone who'd talk to try & distract myself for about an hour. the midwife kept upping the drip, and i couldn't handle it anymore. i'd been awake for like 24 hours, my body was being completely unresponsive, so i asked for some pain relief, she gave my a shot of pethadine & while i was waiting for that to kick in i had gas & air (so awesome), once the pethadine had kicked in at like 6am i was happy again, i remember it hurting, but i just didn't care. you could have told me my mum had died & i'd of been happy about it. my mum & OH had a nap at this point because i was all, 'no, i feel awesome! you guys rest! you need your rest! i'm soooooooo good!' they woke up around eight and i was still 'trippy', the midwife checked me again, and said i was between 2-3cm's dialated, still crap progress. she upped the drip again, and my contractions started to overlap, i had no downtime inbetween the them.
i requested an epidural at 9am. the anaesthetist came to my room, and asked me if i minded another woman getting hers before me, as she was ready to push, and i wasn't. i let her go first. which i really really regretted, they didn't come back until 11am! in the meantime the midwife carried on upping my drip, at around half 10, i had more pethadine, haha.
the anaesthetist came back, and gave me my epidural. it didn't hurt, i was really scared, the hardest part was keeping really still through the pain, and i was really itchy from all the pethadine. after the epidural i was fine, completely settled, although, pretty pissed off that it had come to getting one in the first place. about half 12 the midwife requested the consultant to come & see me, because she was worried about my progress & zach had gotten himself all twisted up. before the consultant examined me he said that he was happy to leave me in labour because i'd had the epidural and zach was fine. we agreed that i was going to stay in labour and he went to examine me before he left, and i was still only 3cm's dialated. he told me i needed an emergency c-section because i wasn't going to progress. he could have left me in labour for another 24 hours & nothing more would have happened. they took my OH & i off to theatre, only one person was allowed to come with me, so obviously that was my OH. while my OH got scrubbed up (he looked so funny!) they gave me a spinal block... which failed. they were spraying cold water up my legs, my left side was fine, my right was fine but i could feel the top of my right thigh, stomach & hip. so i had to have a general anaestetic, which ment my OH couldn't watch. so we both completely missed the birth. i was in theatre for about an hour, it only took 10 minutes or so to deliver him, and the rest to sew me up. he was born at 2.32pm, weighing 8lbs 8oz. he looks like my OH, and doesn't have red hair! anyway, on with the cuteness (and me in labour!)
