Yesterday I saw the HV and she was v happy with Emms and she had put on 10oz in a week which is great. :D She also advised me to let Emms sleep during the day without waking her up for feeds now as she is putting on good weight and should be able to go a bit longer between feeds.

I did this from yesterday afternoon. Emms slept quite a lot in the evening and only woke once in the night for a feed, but only had about 10mins on boob. She was also making more grunty sounds like she was straining out a poo seemingly in her sleep which worried me as I did wind her but it seemed that even doing that, she still was straining and making the odd high pitched cry during her sleep. She has carried on with these sounds.

Since then I have fed her, but she wont feed for v long at all and is being sick after feeding. She is not crying as much for a feed as usual. She is a good colour, doesnt have a temperature and is stilling weeing and doing a bit of poo, but I am really worried that she isnt feeding as much. Normally during the day I have been feeding her every hour as that is what she has wanted, and once or twice in the night. She is passing ++ wind as well! (I had garlic last night, would this affect things?)

I have a cold and I wondered whether I have given it to her although it isnt obvious if I have.

The HV thought that maybe she has thrush as she has a bit of a white tongue and my boobs have had shooting pains etc. We have some anti-biotics, but again when I gave her some last night, she sicked it up.

Can anyone help? I will phone the HV later, if she is still not feeding properly and being sick (not loads of sick just a bit)
:(

Although kyran is bottle fed i have some of the same problems. He grunts and make noises in his sleep and when hes feeding sometimes and its always wind. He always burps in the middle of a feed and at the end straight away but usually within 15mins i rub his back again and he will burp. sometimes im sat there for 30mins before it comes up, but i no he'll have more. classic colic. hes always got trapped wind. Its horrible coz sometimes he gets so upset and frustrated. especially when hes due another fed and still has some trapped wind. My leg is constantly twitching now lol even if i dont have ky on my knee i seem to be forever bouncing him! My OH said i twitch my leg in my sleep now!!

As for being sick could be reflux. Ky always makes sure he throws up a little bit after each feed (especially if hes not wearing a bib!) I think you can get soemthing from the doctors for this but i never have. he's not sick loads so ive left it.

I have been about to post virtually the same thing!!!

Eva also does the grunting thing and every so often is sick LOADS (all over my side of the bed last night) :puke:

I asked my HV cos we seem to spend all night trying to wind her and I feel reluctant to let her feed properly when I know she still has a bubble in there cos it will just all come back up eventually. She said to try gripe water so i am going to get some today. poor little thing just seems so uncomfy, she pulls off my boob all the time to scream which makes me think she isnt getting enough
:(

will let you know if the grip water makes any difference

I use grip water it does help a bit. Dentinox colic medicine i find is the best though.

Layla can take ages to wind sometimes too and if she's still got wind when we put her down she also makes this grunting noise and puts her knees up to her chest. I've been using infacol http://www.infacol.co.uk/ and i find it really good at bringing up the trapped wind. You give it to them before you feed and it relaxes their stomach and helps bring up the trapped wind after.

i use infacol cos connor's really windy - its helped, although he's still quite grunty and farty!! it works best when its used cumulatively though.

having garlic and ginger in our diets theoretically reduces wind - not sure if that's true though...

Thanks guys  She seems to have settled a bit more, will see how it goes this afternoon x
