ATM I only work 3 hours a day but I work in a hospital and helping patients all day (most of them in wheelchairs and beds) is really tiring me out. I come home from work and collapse on the settee every night and don't wanna move.... it's really getting me down (the back ache doesn't help)

Does any1 else feel like this? should I mention it to anybody or just carry on as I am?

I know how you feel - instead of being full of beans in the 2nd Tri, I just feel more and more tired every day. But I also associate this with my job. I am a theatre nurse who has to stand up most of the day, like you shifting patients around and setting up equipment. Also, I scrub in for operations which sometimes requires quite intense concentration and I dont think this helps either - especially with my fuzzy brain. I'm not a morning person and I start at 8am every day and I yearn for my weekend lie-ins!

I think its normal though to feel tired though - I certainly am kipping nearly every evening after work. My MW says I have to have a blood test at my next appointment which will test for anaemia etc so if there is a problem, I think it will be picked up then

I know how you feel and I have a desk job!!!

I've worked in hospitals/carehomes and please please promise me you're not lifting, helping patients up....

If you have a supervisor/boss you can speak to, i would, as you dont want to do yourself any damage to your back pelvis etc..... I'm sure there are tons of other things you can do that are less physical :)

Having said that, I know its hard to say anything as you feel like you are making excuses. I get to 2pm everyday and thats me, I cant concentrate and I'm totally useless...... I'm in two minds whether to say anything to my manager as I don't want it to look like I'm making excuses.

hi i can really sympathise with the tiredness,i'm out of the house 10 hours everyday (but as a sit down job) and am shattered when i get home,i agree with lisaspoon though please do not try and lift anything or pull yourself!

I totally sympathise with you, I worked 32 hours a week on my last pregnancy in a special school, (leither loads of lifting and bending with the wheelchairs, or being pushed, pulled and sat on by the children with challenging behaviour). I worked up until 2 weeks before the birth, didn't complain or ask for lighter duties, but I SHOULD have. I used to come home shattered, depressed and irritable which wasn't fair on my 8 y/o or o/h. Even though we really can't afford it I have given up work this time, but still feel shattered all the time so goodness knows how I'd be if I was working. Your body is asking you to rest, take it easy and slow down, but in your head you don't want others to think you are taking advantage of being pregnant. Do try to come to some sort of arrangement with your boss, maybe you can avoid certain tasks which are strenuous or have a 5 minute sit down when you feel really worn out, as long as you've discussed your reasons they'd be mean to say no. Some people forget what it was like to be pregnant and say 'I was full of energy all the time and felt great' well lucky them!! Nobody feels great every single day I'm sure, so look after yourself, you won't get thanked for trying to be superwoman, you just get more work piled on you for being efficient, do your best, but when you feel the strain, take time out that's my advice! Sorry to go on, o/h on x-box so I'm bored!!

Has your company done a risk assessment on you?

I'm not sure if it's the law but they should re-evaluate some of the heavier duties you do at work.

Definatley talk to you supervisor or manager.

OMG tell me about it. I work on a very busy medical ward, and what with bed baths, pressure area care, pad changes, maintaining physio, every single day on 30 patients...well its killing me.
At the end of a shift my back, hips, legs and bump really ache, and I come home and sleep for 4 hours without fail!!
Ive already had to drop down to four days and cant afford any less, but Im knackered!!
Got one of the docs to do my blood check yesterday and came back normal, so not anaemic...but I really have to slow down.

Its really hard when people give you the "You're pregnant not ill" spiel, but I just cant maintain it anymore :(
