This is a question im dreading on Wednesday when I go for my booking in appointment. I will not be breastfeeding this baby but Im not looking forward to telling this to the midwife. I started off breastfeeding last baby but it was hellish sore and 9lb baby was not getting enough. I was in hospital for 5 days and knew then it was not working but when I wanted to change they didnt say no but made me feel guilty to the point where I percivered. When I did go onto the bottle it was a dream and Jess took loads and settled right down. I felt angry that I hadnt went with my instincts.
This time I want things my way. If its a 6lb then I might have a go but I will make the decision. Still, Im still not looking forward to the conversation.
Any thoughts????

Hello

I would do what you feel is right no one can make you do what you dont feel is right for you, as long as your baby is health and happy it should not mater.
I think its wrong when doctors or midwives give negetive comments when tehy ask you what you want, they should respect your decision and help you choose the best formula to get you started.
I hope its not as bad as you think it will be and letme know how it goes.

Everyone has to make the right choice for them. I am going to try it but i don't know how it will go yet :?

As long as your baby is getting what he/she needs then it's up to you how you want to raise them x

I really wanted to breast feed Phoebe but she just wouldn't latch on. The midwives let her go 24hrs without a feed in the hope that she would latch on but no luck. I expressed some colostrum the day after she was born and they fed it to her in a cup. The nursery nurse (nurses who help with breastfeeding and bathing etc) actually advised that I give up and put her on formula. She said 1 in 3000 babies just won't latch on and normally it's boys!! I didn't want to give up straight away so I expressed the day after I was discharged but hardly had any milk so had to top up with formula anyway because by now she was starving. So from 3days old she went onto formula. She has suffered with colic and not sure if this has anything to do with bottle feeding but I really didn't have much choice. I could have expressed every 2hrs for her but I'd have just felt like a feeding machine.
My midwife and health visitor never questioned me or made me feel like a failure because I had put her on formula. However I think I would try and breastfeed again if I had more children.
I think that you should feel comfortable doing either and it is totally your choice. Don't feel bad about choosing not to breastfeed. Loads of people opt to bottle feed. xxxx

hi hun, no im not breast feeding this baby i didnt with my last child she is 9months old and very healthy, im glad i didnt breast feed and im not ashamed to tell any one :)

Hello Laura

you really have to do what is best for you and your baby. its the same as when you give birth, at the end of the day it is up to you and not the midwife. they can only advise you.

good luck hun and remember that you are in control.

Hi folks
Thanks for your kind replys. The visit is over and it was fine. I told her my thoughts and she said it was up to me. And it is.
Thanks again

Laura.

Hi I am breast feeding but Jack isnt getting enough so I am topping up with formula.

I thought I would produce loads of milk as Im large chested, and at first I think I was.
Jack has been feeding for an hour at times, sometimes more and still not settling. I think he was getting milk out for the first 15 minutes then just sucking at nothing.

Only been topping up for a few days but think its working. Im also expressing with a pump and freezing the milk so that my boobs will hopefully start producing more milk!!!
