Over a full 24 hours i really dont think 5 week old Dylan sleeps for more than 6 hours (individual little power naps, not in one go) he never has a good long sleep and is always wide awake.
This cant be right with him being so young can it?
He's not miserable when hes awake though, he happily looks at everything and makes little happy coos.
Should i try and encourage him to have more sleep, take him out in the car or for a walk or something? or shall i let him get on with it as hes happy and healthy?
Just dont want to cause long term problems of him never wanting to sleep.

Thanks xx

Hun if he wanted to sleep he would! I dont think it will cause any problems! Some babies are just more awake than others! Just like some adults are too! Hopefully it will mean he is always full of energy :D

Ditto the above.

My son was and stil is a power napper. He would sleep only about half an hour in a 12 hour period and then sleep for at most 2 hours at a time in the night. This changed a bit around 12-14 weeks and he slept a bit longer at night but he still hardly ever sleeps in the day.

Some babies are not sleepers, but they gradually adjust. If he were tired, he'd sleep. I'd not worry. Just adapt to his being awake and get on with what you need to do as he can sit and watch atm and get used to you being busy while he watches.

ditto what the other girls say, i have a power napper too and he doesn't sleep through at night, he sleeps when he is tired. unless your bubs is maybe suffering from colic (which you would know about with crying) he prob is just a wee awake baby.
on the bright side, it means i don't have to arrange my day around his nap times, i can just go out whenever and he entertains everyone!
